I've got a winter tire set of Nokian Hakka R2's (255/50-18) mounted on stock BMW wheels that came on the 2012 X3 28i (can't remember the wheel number). I use them on my 2012 35i that normally has 19" wheels. But I'm thinking of upgrading to the new X3 340i next year and wonder if those 18" wheels will fit on the new 340i. Anyone have a clue?

I guess we have access to the manuals now, we should be able to find the offsets and bolt patterns.

Because of the larger brakes, the M40i needs 19" rims. Style 691 V Spoke with Bridgstone Blizzak or Style 694 Y Spoke with Michelin Alpin. Both are 245 / 50 |

Damn! I was hoping I wouldn't have to buy more wheels and tires, especially since I need to put on a new set of winter tires this year.

I'm in the same boat as you. Canadian M40i has the 21" wheels standard. I'm stuck getting new wheels and tires and can't reuse my current X3 winter wheels unfortunately.

I travel to the mountains in the west and need assurances during heavy snows that I can make it up and down steep grades. I tried the OEM all season the first year I owned the X3 and felt like I was slipping all over the place. With winter tires I can go anywhere in the snow and feel confident driving.

The tire options for the OEM size seem to be pretty expensive.
There aren't any winter tire options for the 19" 245/50/19 that I can see in Canada.. Going up to 20" makes each tire+wheel cost like $600CAD per tire... not forgetting that TPMS is now standard on the X3, resulting in another $200-300 in total for the sensors... Wondering if I could get away with putting 18"s on a X3 with the Msport breaks |

I was also looking at replacement tire costs. The standard 21" OEM tires in Canada are over $700 in some places I looked at. That's about $3K for new tires at least once during the lease based on my Run flat experiences. I'm wondering if taking the 19" tires as a no charge option might be the better choice.

Because there's really no such thing.
While DWS06 have OK snow traction and the Nokian WRG3 do a great job impersonating an "all season tire" (they're really more of a hipo winter), if you really want to turn and stop in cold weather/surfaces, you need the right rubber. |

Tire Rack's website is not showing any snow tires for the X3 M40i, so I do not have a point of comparison nor a wheel. My dealer said that the brakes are too big for an 18" rim. Given the potholes that we get here I like the biggest sidewall possible for winter and spring driving so that means a 19' wheel. Hopefully Tire Rack has some options soon, I have placed an order that will be December production at the earliest.
