Fading of the rear spoiler?

It's a 2021, and was a Canadian car. So hard to imagine it was exposed to that much sun in it's short life. Has anyone else experienced this? What did you do? Suggestions?

Very common. Bring it to the dealer and they will replace it free of charge

They all eventually turn into a slightly bluish and/or purplish tint at some point. Even with a few coats of nice ceramic sealant the UV rays from the sun bleach & lighten this part up a lot. Even on white cars that reflect the most heat.

Interesting, didn't think about it being covered. Thanks!

Mine's doing it also. Plan on the dealer looking at it when the Summer tires go on.

Yeah I figured I would call it out when I take it in for the next oil change.

I pointed this out to my dealer as well. They have had one on order for a few months. Called the other day to get a status and they said it’s on the way.

I’ve only got about 8k miles on my 2020 and most of the time it sits in the garage so not a lot of sun exposure. I also had ceramic coating on it.

Doesn’t make me feel great about the longevity of the replacement.

Yep, known issue. I've had mine replaced twice under warranty. It's likely a UV issue. Btw...we get sun up here in Canada....

Is there any kind of UV protectant to prevent this? I mean other than sunblock

Have it wrapped in gloss black PPF and never worry about it again.

Yeah I was thinking about that. As I have the CF Exterior package, I think a CF wrap would look pretty sweet.

Not UV related

I agree with #codeyf's post on 4-10-2023. I have a 2021 X3 M40i carbon black and my spoiler started fading within the first year. I had less than 5k miles on it as I travel for work and it stays in the garage (only 15k miles on it in 3 years). If it is UV, what a terrible short life span. I was just in for an oil change and they ordered a replacement under warranty. Will post later (6-12 months) after install to update if replacement fades as well. I didn't notice any posts if any replacement spoilers faded? Anybody? Thanks!

You're absolutely right about this UV sensitive part. I have a garage queen 2020 X3 MC with less that 4k miles on it. This machine spends most of its life sleeping in the garage & is rarely out in daylight sun for more then 3-4 hours at a time at the very most. If ever. LOL This part fades fast surprisingly fast & isn't as solid black as it appears to be when new. It's really a deep eggplant purple / ambe-rish looking part when removed & held up to the sun. So BMW's solution is to keep replacing this part. But that's just a temporary / bandaid fix that doesn't address the problem. PPF will buy you a little more time. But I believe the only real solution is to get in painted with a strong clear coat or vinyl wrapped with a semi-gloss black material. This part is super week in the sun & quickly get's burned in a short amount of time under those harsh UV rays.

My 2020 is about the same as described. I had mine fade (despite mostly living in the garage and ceramic coated).

I had the dealer replace and then I got it wrapped with a clear xpel fusion which has a ceramic coating.

So far it seems to have held. I got the idea after researching preventing fading of the headlights on my other truck which I replaced with a set from Amazon and wrapped myself and they have not faded.

Per my research, UV fades in the presence of oxygen. By wrapping you eliminate exposure to air.

The headlights have held up far longer than the previous replacement despite being the same Chinese quality.

Bottom line I would recommend to get the spoiler wrapped.
