You could, in theory, have a touchscreen enabled screen, but your software was built around one chip and when you changed chips, the software wouldn't work with the touch.

I heard about the carplay, but not this issue with the touchscreen, so unsure

BUT can you retrofit without affecting warranty?
Probably.

Online video seems to suggest fitting is pretty straightforward.
Remove the seat back with a trim tool and slip the lumbar pillow between the back foam squab and the seat frame and lead the manual pump down side of the seat frame.

Not as swish as OEM power lumbar, but looks like it would be functionally the same.

Hard to see how it would affect warranty, and if you were worried, you could always remove it if there was an issues

Here is a link to my thread on doing a manual lumbar retrofit to my 2022 X3.
There should be no warranty issues, as the lumbar bladder can be removed without detection.

Would it be a deal breaker if "bolster" was not adjustable? The standard option is adjustable and power lumbar for real leather. But I know we can just put something behind our back for lumbar BUT if your car didnt have bolster with real leather would you "WALK" from the sale?

People need to start walking away and not accept the excessive cutting. BMW said (late 2019 I believe) they are looking to cut vehicle production costs by 25% for every single vehicle. Seems as though they are hiding behind "supply chain" issues for a lot of cutting. I currently have an '18 M40i with all the options that are getting cut, and I wouldn't trade it on a new one to pay more for less.

Guys - I'll give you a quick update.

My CA is very good and has contacts with the BMW production dept.

Yes, it turns out a batch of the first few weeks of '23s were produced without Driver Lumbar Support, I believe this is temporary. My car was one of them. She was able to swap an allocation for me and I will get the same exact car just a few weeks later with Driver Lumbar support.

Heads up - code 487 is necessary... without it, you are not getting lumber.

Hope this helps.

Hey folks. I've been in "Dispatched From Factory" status since 8/17, and have a few more weeks before my X3 makes its way up to my dealer. This morning I sent an email to my CA relating (in brief) the facts we've been sharing on this Forum about the missing driver lumbar support standard feature. I told her there were a couple of options - preferred being that once parts become available, that they retrofit my vehicle, and the fall-back being that they provide financial compensation for the missing feature.

I asked that she/her manager connect with their regional rep to relay the info I shared and get back to me with an answer. She's been very responsive up to this point, so we shall see....

This isn't a deal breaker for me, but it's worth all of us making noise about - especially if BMW is now saying that later builds will have this standard feature.

Cheers~

Will you still have PAP? Or did you not order it? We've heard it's limited this year.

Thanks for the news. Any idea what it means the first few weeks? I am scheduled for week 39 so not sure if I would fall in with having the driver lumbar or removed? Also, should I be contacting my sales person to see if they know more and request a few weeks later if it turns out that I'm not part of the builds that will have driver lumbar? I guess I'm trying to find out what I should do being a week 39 on my end.

I just emailed my dealer and told them I only want the car if it has everything I requested so they are following up with someone to see what exactly is missing.

I did not get it... there is a limit to what I want to spend on this car and I am at the very upper boundary.

Thanks for all the info. I think for me PAP is more important. But it's still frustrating. I spoke to Genius to get an update on the delivery of my car & asked about lumbar. He was aware. Seems like nothing is planned to be done that he knew of. He said to talk to my CA. He said there was & still is a shortage.

Contacting sales person at this point is best bet for everyone in my mind.

I'm week 39 and emailed my sales rep. My build has always said Driver Lumbar but as members have said, stuff is written everywhere and then the car shows up with nothing. Hopefully, the car comes with PAINT on it :-)
