Check the front wheel wells for wires going to the struts. There's a brake line in the same area, but that's obvious.

Also, get the VIN and throw it into a VIN decoder.

It’d be hard to spot the brakeline from online pics. i know i saw a person with dhp said they checked their vin and didnt see the 223 for electronic damper control. Is that possible?

Tough price, I bought a 14 three months ago with 40k miles that was loaded with everything for that price.

This link will bring you to the VIN info for the car you mentioned in post 10. It says it has "S223S Electronic Damper Control EDC". If you want to check out a different car, just swap the last 7 digits of the VIN at the end of the URL.

The 15-17 lci are drawing 3-4k more cause of the small updates. I could actually care less. It looks nicer but i’d take a 35i 11’ in good shape with m sport and dhp.

But heres my question... if im in the 20k range do i start considering a 2010-2013 x5m. Ive seen some in the 22k range. Thats so much car for the money. I was looking to trade out my e93 for something more practical, still quick and fun, better gas consumption (x5m prob gets 10mpg) and realtively cheap under 20k the closer to 10 the better and maybe pick up a second fun car in a year or 2.

X5M maintenance is going to cost as much as a $100,000 car, so be prepared for that.

Later F25's have fewer issues than earlier ones. I think it's worth the premium.

From what im reading with current owners its standard maint stuff like plugs and injectors, suspension etc. hoping a lot of stuff i can source parts on and do myself. Going to test drive one this weekend, part of me is hoping it does what the m6 did to me. m6 was the fastest thing i ever drove but somehow i wasnt impressed with it.

i found a 120k miles x5m for 15k, clean title no accidents... but was repossessed at some point

After owning a few BMW V8's I have sworn to myself to never do it again. They have all had an enormous number of issues.

Maintenance on a X5M is nuts at higher mileage. Just look at the price of tires and how often they go through them.

Are you not aware of how shitty BMW V8's with turbos are? They use a hot-V design and it has tons of issues. The chance of you getting a well sorted engine is <5% with the amount of problems that pop up.

These things are ymmv. Ive had an e90, e60 m5, 335 and m3. So far only the m5 had bent valves and motor needed to be replaced. The m3 has the rod bearing on the v8 but no idea how common it is. I dont mind doing some work myself. I’ll drive one this weekend and see what happens. I just cant find any of these x3s with dhp and the x5m Probably have better handling than an m sport x3 dhp.

The depreciation on bmws is really something special. I think every car sort of rewches a leveling off where it doesnt drop much, but bmws seem to be a lot lower than audi and porsche for some reason. Ive never been a big meecedes guy i dont know how the age financially.

Garage List
It definitely looks interesting, but for that price I would get a PPI just to make sure nothing is hiding...does it need new brakes and/or tires all around? is a check engine light on? does it smell? the low price would make me cautious.

Let us know how it goes!

This is actually going rate now for pre-lci w/no m sport and that many miles. They’re all around $10k even the 35i. The msport with 80k miles is around $15k. I’m in LA and for some reason all the cars are in texas, northeast or florida. There are virtually no cars for sale on the west coast. It sucks. Ive had to ship 3 cars in the last 2 years.

I have dhp on mine... Having driven both, i can say that the dhp is definitely worth it... It just transformed the X3 between eco pro and sport pro almost like a different car. Repairs cost might be high but it will only be done once if needed... I can source the parts and have my indi do it...
