Spark Plug Change Video...

Decided to capture myself changing the spark plugs on my M40i...should be similar to the B48. I also caught a glimpse into the cylinders...what do you guys think of the piston top?

I run stock plugs.

I did refresh when installing catted AA DP.

What i did was asked for the stock plug part #'s at the local part counter at dealer and i opened up every one until i got 6 matching same make, otherwise i was getting mix of 2 brands.

Sticking with stock gaps also.

Check with MHD on gapping…I think they recommend tighter for tuned cars.

Yeah, i thought so too, e-mail them about it to get clarification, and response was to stick with stock gap (unless making lots of boost/power).

So damn confusing...

They're pre-gapped, but I did a quick check to make sure they're good. The gap on the old one's was off.

I thought the spark plug recommended change comes at 100,000 miles?

I know it's based on engine model, but for the life of me I can't figure out what model of engine is in my car.... some sources say "B46B2000" or "G01" what is it?...lol.

Hopefully someone smarter than me can tell me what my engine number or model number is....(2020 X3-xDrive30i....248hp)

thx

I have no idea what engine model I have in my BMW (2020 X3 xDrive 30i). One source says mine is: B46B20O0 (B46TU or B46D), 2.0L I4 Twin Scroll Turbo with Valvetronic, SULEV....that's all "greek" to me.....lol

Is that correct? and if so, what's the recommended spark plug change interval?

If you haven't tuned your car, 60,000 to 80,000 miles is typically fine. If you've tuned, 30-40,000 miles.

Tuned on high boost for me. Gapped plugs replacement is at 20k miles and oil 5k miles.

But OP this video is sweet. CHEERS

For some reason the little fuel calculator on my instrument panel has begun to display an unusually high mileage range after a fill up and zeroing out the trip odo.

It has typically displayed a (warm weather) range of about 500-515 miles after filling the tank. The last two fill-ups have displayed a range of 545 to 555 miles. Don't get me wrong, I love an increase in range per tank but I can't account for the sudden increase. That works out to about 32 mpg in about 30% highway and 70% city/suburban driving. Does anyone have a possible explanation? (other than the dash board indicator is messed up or I'm buying "magic gas"...lol).

FYI it's a...2020 X3 i30 xDrive w/24,000 miles and oil changes every 5,000

Same here, at least way later than it was done.
Bur for me, even iDrive said that 07/22 or 11 000km (if I remember correctly mileage, but something like that)...
But wont hurt to do it even every 50 000km.

Here is another video that has good info. Did you know B58 gen 1 engine has slightly shorter plugs than B58TU. Can someone confirm this?

Apparently this is true. The B58 TU (revised) has a 2mm shorter plug, due to the changed piston design

I’m going crazy trying to pull my plugs! I’ve used 14mm, 15mm and 5/8” long reach sockets! None of which seems to work!

What size sockets are you all using?

You may need a 12 point 14mm thin wall socket with a built in magnet. This will help
