The lag is evident if you try to drive it like a V8, or like an F80 which is tuned for more lower end. Can't just mash the gas at speed. Once you learn that it needs to be driven differently, the lag all but disappears.

I wouldn't call it lag as much as simple lack of boost at low RPMs (sub 2k).
Even better to keep it above 2500 RPMs. At middle to higher RPMs, I don't feel much lag at all when mashing the peddle, although it's still not as good as the M2C's S55. The S58 strength, especially compared to the M2C is the top end. Which I unfortunately rarely experience. Although on a recent trip to "Mexico" I did hit 120 MPH for fun on a lengthy exit lane. PS: Compared the M550i V8 I traded for the X3M, it's a dog sub 2k, vs the M550i that could pull hard starting 1500-1800 RPMs with no lag!
