15mm vs 20mm wheel spacers X3 M40i 22'

I'm hearing and reading a lot of different things regarding the 15 & 20mm spacers for the g chassis. Had a tire shop tell me put on at my own risk??

Can anyone tell me why or why I shouldn't use spacers. If you do recommend, what mm and brand do you recommend for the 2022 X3 M40i?

The 15mm seems to be what should've came stock lol. I want to go 20mm, but who knows rn..

I was warned re spacers prior to installing them on my current ride; a 2004 4 Runner. I’m certain they are a life threatening hazard IF NOT installed competently. That being said, I’ve had zero issues with them and they accomplished what I needed them to do (caliper clearance and aesthetics)

Re size, I was dead set on 18mm f/r until I got some sage advice from an Aussie forum member along the lines of “less is more”. So 15mm f/r Future Classic spacers from IND. They were a tad more costly than other brands but I appreciated the complete package aspect of their product.

Now all I need is an X4 to install them on…:~}

So any spacers that are lower than 10mm don't have a Hubcentric and/or wheelcentric center, because of this you may get some vibration. The X3 now has 5x112 bolt pattern with a 66.6 center bore, so make sure you find the correct size you want.

Most members who are keeping the stock wheels are using 15mm spacers with the proper sized wheel bolts will make the wheels sit flush with the fenders. Since the stock lug bolt length is 27mm you need to add 15mm to the new wheel bolt (42mm length) and have it properly engage into the wheel hub, too long and the wheel bolt may bottom out and hit the spindle and too short you may see your wheel fly past you on the road.

Most kits will have the proper sized wheel bolt included. I have aftermarket wheels and needed 8mm spacers to make it sit flush with the fenders and not have it look sunken in. I made the mistake of getting cheap spacers where the centerbore was hubcentric but not wheelcentric and I got alot of vibration driving down the road.

I found this company https://www.42draftdesigns.com/audi-...wheel-spacers/ where they machine the spacers that are less than 10mm that are hubcentric and wheelcentric( centerbore has a lip that sits flush on the hub and an extended lip that sits flush into the wheel). "Hubcentric fitment is built-in, combined with a wheelcentric extension to eliminate the possibility of wheel wobble."

Item says it fit Audi but it can be used on BMW even though centerbore is listed at 66.56.

Then I found the correct sized wheel bolts. FYI I used these for the colored caps

I have 15mm spacers and they are good.
However, if I could do it all over again I’d get 20mm
Actually considering switching mine out to 20mm…

15mm = perfectly flush
20mm would be a little more aggressive I’d assume…

20mm have an “issue” the bolts are about 3mm longer than flush and stick out through backside of the hub.
I’m pretty sure there any many in here with 20mm but if so please confirm no issues.
… If so I might swap to 20mm

As long as you get quality spacers, and they are installed properly… there is literally no issue.
You MUST get longer, correct length wheel bolts

Shop has to say install at your own risk anything aftermarket in case something would happen
Go for it

Let me know if you figure out the 20mm bolt length. I automatically assumed the length would be correct if it comes with the bolt kit

27mm Lug (stock length M14x1.25 bolt size) + 20mm spacer width= 47mm lug bolt

What size bolt comes with the 20mm spacer kit?

Checked out Tuner Motorsports 20mm wheel spacer kit and it seems like the bolt is 50mm

Would that cause any issues?

47mm bolts I don’t think exist, or at least very uncommon, which is why mostly all come with 50mm bolts…

It “should” work and be OK but I just want someone to confirm front/rears do clear without issue

This is only 1mm longer so it should be fine.

"Fancy" ones like mine with wheel lock

Make sure you get cone seat and not ball seat which is used on some Mercs/Audi.

Disclaimer you have to make sure these will work and confirm on your due diligence.

One consideration is the additional stress and wear that the hub could be exposed to with the wheel further away. If you were to ever experience any noticeable issues I’d be shocked but a consideration nevertheless.

Hi guys,

I’m in the market for spacers, considering 15M. Any suggestions of the best brand/place to purchase from?

Thanks!

You can find much cheaper sets than the future classics, but I thought that they were worth the price difference when I was in the market for spacers

EDIT: Looks like I found my answers. Here's the install vid for others!

r33_RGSport helped me find the right sized spacers and and bolts for my car! Ordered through him and got mine a day later with a quick install. Went 15mm all around and I love it. 15mm doesnt make a HUGE difference, but it definitely gave it a nice upgrade.

here's a before and after

Hello. As I know, wheel spacers can sometimes cause an accelerated pattern of wear on the hub components of your vehicle and its suspension.

Spacers are no different than running wheels with a lower offset.
Perhaps over hundreds of thousands of miles it might put additional stress on them hubs, but its negligible and no evidence it actually causes accelerated wear.
Look at the BMW drivers (and all car brands) running spacers and/or lower offset wheels vs. how often (not often at all) of people having wheel hub issues.
This is a non-issue.

I am debating of switching my 15mm's for 20mm's ... who here is actually running 20mm?

Do you need to do a wheel alignment after installing the 15mm spacers?

Do they rub with something?
