I love everything about the GLC63. Gorgeous inside and out with insane power to boot.

Those drag races match my experience with the X4M competition: lot of lag and lack of low-end torque, but good top-end power.

All in all, I found that S58 engine to be not very usable on public roads, to be honest, I was not impressed.

On the other hand, I was impressed by the chassis and brakes of the X4MC.

This is a very hot take, to be honest. In addition, a simple tune and sec cat delete fix the turbo lag.

The 5.0L SC V8 in that Jag just sounds awesome, like a roaring cat, very fitting given the badge Shame engines like this will be phased out due to tougher emissions regulations.

I know...

But with that biturbo setup and the fact that BMW is usually quite good dealing with turbo lag, I thought that the result would be more spectacular.

Maybe the huge weight of the X4M is responsible for that impression.

Let's see how the S58 performs in the M3/M4

Totally agree! It's obviously a subjective matter but for me it looks and sounds better than X3/X4 M. I wish MB USA offered the S version here as well for this body stule of the GLC.

Jag is also supercharged. The supercharger really helps with the low end power but stands no chance against the top end power of the twin turbos.
Well said

But man I love the whine of a property spun supercharger

LOL what? Unless you are trying to achieve 1/4 mile times stoplight to stoplight this is a ridiculous statement. Lag and all the S58 engine will dust off pretty well any other vehicle on the streets at part throttle as I know well as it happens every day I drive this vehicle where part throttle pretty well keeps me ahead of all traffic from light to light. The engine is still extremely responsive and gets going very quickly as the only time you notice any lag is if you are flooring it from a stop which is something that shouldn't happen too much on public roads. Considering most people lie or bend the truth on the internet I'm beginning to wonder just how many people have actually driven the car and how many are simply lying because I have still yet to see a review (watch the videos from savagegeese or Matt Farah where they spend most of the review talking about the stupid fast power) of these vehicles where the reviewer brings up lag as a negative yet because a couple of random people on the internet decided it had lag it's kind of snowballed on this forum with people with no experience with this engine making nonsensical declarations like this. The rolling 5-60 mph time of 4.7 seconds (a test of how the engine would respond in normal driving) of these vehicles still annihilates 99% of vehicles on the road so I would advise that anyone reading to keep that in mind before latching on to ridiculous statements like above or maybe at least take the opinions of actual owners over people that claim they test drove one. Not saying everyone that says they test drove a car is lying but when you read a statement like this about a vehicle I own and know very well it definitely sets off my alarm bells.

Here's a Motortrend comparison that shows just how much the X3M punches over its weight class;

https://www.motortrend.com/news/2020...n-test-review/

"It drives much faster than only 503 hp would have you believe," Lieberman said. "It pulls hard, and then over 6,000 rpm it really starts pulling. Beast of a motor." M3 and M4 owners will be quite happy when this engine makes its way into the upcoming G20-edition M3.
Johnny Lieberman drives pretty well every new car out there including that great Mercedes engine that placed behind the X3M in this comparison. You think he would say above about a an engine that isn't usable on public roads? The best thing about the G80 M3/M4 being released is that this engine will be far more common and we can move on past the internet falsehoods.

Jason Cammisa mentioned it in his review.

I like Jason Cammisa and as an owner I've never denied lag. I'm more bothered about over the top comments as per the one I bolded. His review is a bit of an outlier though as anyone that's read or watched all the reviews knows that 99% of the criticism regards the ride. He's almost 180 from everyone else as he calls the ride taut while calls out lag. Go figure.

You know, it was just my honnest impression.

On public roads, I found it difficult to reach the 5k-7k rpm zone without breaking heavily the law. Also, I found the car to be lacking response and power in the 2.5-4k range, so it was kind of frustrating.

The same day, I test drove the X6 M50i. I wasn't really expecting anything, as that car is so heavy.

I ended up be very impressed by the response and low-end torque of the M50i, despite having only 13hp more than the X4M (officially at least).

I guess it all depends what you are used to drive and what are your expectations.

Happy for you if you enjoy your car.

Why is it non M car drivers try to tell M car owners why they shouldn't enjoy their cars...

Yep, I agree with that - but, also view it in a different way.

Sub 4k the car is docile&calm and leads to you driving much more sedately. Above that it is very different. The power delivery just climbs and climbs. But, yes, the speeds when you play in that zone are scarily high! With a manual gearbox, i think this engine would be a nightmare for daily driving. 80% of the performance is in the last 50% of the range

In contrast the 335d i had before had heaps of low down shove (no surprise) but when you wanted a bit more fun, it just run out of puff. A great everyday, fast effortless engine. 80% of the performance is in the first 50% of the range

what's this shit about "non M car drivers"..

what do you know about M cars (or other) that I have driven ?

that just a plain stupid comment.

If you can't bear other's opinions, just don't read forums.

I couldn't agree more. I don't understand the "lag" comments. Just eased through my break-in and I have to say this thing pretty much DESTROYS on the road...city carving or otherwise.

If you are a gas pedal masher trying to carve the big city...you are doing it WRONG!

Something that I absolutely love is when I put it in drive, there is no creep. Does not move an inch until I supply the fuel. No better feeling than rolling that pedal to WOT.
