Figured this might be a good spot to ask - anyone pull the fuses or do that thing to keep exhaust flaps open on the X3M? Does this do anything bad to the car in anyway? I figured it's probably there to serve a purpose...? I want to keep my car for a very long time so I don't want to do anything detrimental or even diminish its life in any way. I love the grumble on cold starts, but then it quiets down. I wish it just grumbled and stayed doing so.

You need a high flow primary cat, my friend. It won't affect the flap action at all, but you won't really need them as much at that point! Everyrhing is a bit louder and deeper.

I may be biased from the solution I found, but the supersprint high flow stainless primary cat swap has given me all the extra sound I craved, not to mention a little extra headroom going into my stage one tune. It's noticeable and respectable and never fully "quiet", but it's not obnoxious either. I totally understand some may opt for an even louder option, but this was the perfect solution for my tastes. It's deeper and louder than stock at all settings.

Thank you! Yeah, was not looking for anything obnoxious myself, just meaningful. So I will check that out! It sounds like it's what I'd be looking for.

Sorry, one more question, do you know if they would pass a smog inspection? I live in California...

Agree on the more luxurious. Sexier? In the eye of the beholder. To my eye the Velar is more bland, especially on the outside, and appeals to a somewhat different demographic.

The X3M Comp is freakin' awesome. I've been driving mine non-stop and nothing in its segment can hang with it. Period. I'm hoping for a Dinan tune at some point to address low-end torque, but not holding my breath. I can't launch until after the 1200 mile break-in and cannot wait until I can shift to redline in each gear.

My main complaint is that BMW put the seats from the M5 and put them in the X3M. I have wide thighs and I'm sitting on the left bolster, lol. The seats should have adjustable bolsters.

Normally, I'd say you'll be fine as the stainless high flow catalytic converter is not a straight pipe cat delete. The stainless cat works well enough that the BMW sensors will not trigger a malfunction. But you specifically mention California, the state with the highest emission standards of them all. I honestly don't know if it would meet those requirements. I will say that the secondary catalytic converter is still left completely intact with this solution. I went from a ceramic 600 cells per inch primary cat to a stainless 200 cells per inch. The whole system must still be working quite well converting carbon monoxide to carbon dioxide as my exhaust doesn't stink like a cat-less car. But then again, my nose isn't calibrated to California specs either. I would discuss with a local muffler shop mechanic who knows the emissions requirements well.

Boring SUVs racing who cares, does Karen need this feature to beat other people into parking spaces at Macy's?

Macy's? Hell no. You could do that shopping spree in an M3. I'm thinking home depot or Lowes with an X3MC. Bring it on!

fuck no, but who gives a shit, you'll dump the car long before that's a question (only for cars 6+ years old i think) and if you do plan to keep the car that long just put the stock cats back on every 2 years.

Karen is fine with the M2C providing transportation for her Macy's needs. Karen's husband needs the SUV to handle the Home Depot pickups.

This same thing came up with the F8x, turned out it was people driving in 7th gear efficient mode going 30 mph or whatever. In my f8x, I've never made it outa 4th except in germany.

For the F97 I'd rather have M-DCT, but it's not hard to hold gears and get any performance you want if you know how to drive a high horsepower car. Truth is, most people don't, they keep it in auto-efficient mode, then complain ...

Keeps the BMW engine management coders employed, but I bet the engineers eyeroll a driver calling a 500hp SUV sluggish.

Na, M2 is just a slow M, that’s all.

👍🏼! Ya, I do plan to keep her. So, I guess I'm gonna make my New Years resolution to find a friend who specializes in BMW 😂!

Thanks for the replies! Agree with ya on the "sluggish" one! Cracked me up too 😂😂!

Definitely think RR Velar is the best looking suv on the market now

I test drove the X3MC and to me it's a sluggish car for its class in traffic, compared to the F82 ZCP or the AMG GLC 63, or dare I say even any BMW with a B58tu. Though I'm sure it'd be a different story as speed builds up.

The S58 needs a TU, or the G80 would be a better car carrying over the S55.
I know we all use English differently but to use the word sluggish to describe the X3MC is laughable, it would beat an F8* all day long on a 1/4 mile despite carrying another 600-700lbs, now if you daily a 720S I could forgive you but otherwise you clearly didn't drive the X3MC properly, if at all.

I have no idea how you can surmise the S55 is better than the S58 or how a brand new M engine with forged internals and new tech like 3d printed head etc...needs a TU? Because you drove it round the block on a test drive? LOL.

I’ve pulled the plugs on both exhausts to force the flaps open. Much prefer it. Also disabled ASD which I’ve done in all my BMW’s that have it as I can’t stand the digital noise.
