Idrive 6.0 => 7.0 when will it change?

Hey everybody,
will take delivery of my X3m Comp in April here in germany.
Cannot find any news about the change of the idrve system. The normal X3 Models already got the upgrade when changing to 2020 model year.

Does anybody know when it will change for the X3M/X4M?

Usually from April things like iDrive are added, so it's likely that it will be after your delivery, but maybe before.

I wouldn't worry too much, it's not really an improvement, although it is nice to have the latest tech.

One things for sure, the new digital dash is terrible compared to the current X3M dash.

Following up on this, does anyone know if Android Auto will be added to the X3M's version of the iDrive 7? Things I read are that it will be added to the "latest version of iDrive 7." Not sure if that includes the iDrive 7 "lite" that the X3M will likely get (a la the G30).

I prefer the current dash, it gives it more of a sporty to feel to it. The current dash really does mix the old with the new in a good way.

Only thing I hate about Idrive 6 is that CarPlay won't take up the full screen.

If you are an avid Android user I would say it would be worth it to wait for ID7 or you will be missing out AA connectivity for the duration of your ownership. If not it's a matter of how much you want the new tech. I personally think BMW totally dropped the ball on their new digital dash as it's arguably the worst in the industry. I would go a step further and argue the people involved in designing the boomerang tack and speedo should never be allowed to design digital interfaces again as Audi and MB have managed to make a seamless transition to round digital gauges that are beautiful and easy to read meanwhile BMW tried to fix something that wasn't broken. That said ID7 does have some improvements and will age better. I really like ID6 though and I don't know if the deal I got in the end of December would be available again so ID7 isn't something I was willing to pay more for.

Ya I need it to go full screen! It seems half thought through with the current CarPlay

I'm sure I'm in the minority on this, but I actually really like the digital dash. VW/Audi's virtual cockpit is complete eye-candy, but can be very distracting, especially with all the different options. To me, I'm able to quickly glance and view the info I need with BMW's version, and there are less distracting graphics.

Personally, what I really am hoping for with ID7 in the X3/4M is remote start and android auto. Those are borderline deal breakers and not sure why it took BMW so long to finally introduce them.

when they make the move to ID7 is it a given that they will change the dash layout as well to the new layout? i guess it goes hand in hand... but i really like the dash of the x3m and m5 currently. I like dials.. whether digital or analog.

I may be in the minority on this, but I prefer analog style gauges a well. I will say the X3M digital instrument cluster layout and operation is impressive.

I also own a Huracan and the digital analog gauges are horrible on that car with severe lag and lack of smoothness. Resolution is also mind boggling low for such a modern model year vehicle of this caliber.

If the 2020 X3/X4 is any indication I would say that the dash will change in with the addition of ID7. M models do get a special M display that has a big digital speedo in the middle surrounded by tachs on each side that go up vertically. It's easier to read than the standard boomerang display but still strange to see redundant tachometers on a screen.
