New York BMW Dealers out of rear differential fluid for 1,200 mi break-in service?

Anyone else finding this to be the case? Had mine scheduled for the last week of December. Took it to BMW of Bayside, waited an hour only to be told they were out of the rear differential fluid needed for the service. They even called surrounding dealerships and no luck. I have confirmed this also. The next estimated due date to a local dealership is 1/16/20. I'm already at 1,400 miles and pretty pissed off. Anyone local to NYC/Long Island hear the same? Am I damaging the car by driving beyond the 1,200 miles?

I just got mine done on Saturday at habberstad in Huntington, you could try there.

Service booked and completed already! Man these guys were good! Thanks for the recommendation. Break-in service all done. Now the real fun begins!

The shortage of differential fluid is a new one for me. Never encountered this before.

I imagine the following scene happening at the dealership:

Tech 1: "Uhh, well we don't have any of the differential fluid to complete the service... we never bought any."
S.A.: "What do you mean we didn't buy differential fluid?"
Tech 2: "We have 3 X3Ms that have sat on our lot for the past 4 months. We didn't think anyone would buy one."
Tech 1: "Yeah S.A., didn't you see the Joe Achilles review? He said it was too stiff. No one wants an SAV that's as stiff as the M3!"
S.A.: "Well shit, I'll just tell the customer that all of the dealers are out and it's totally not our fault."

Interestingly the one that has the fluid is a certified M center dealer and the other isn’t?

Yeah I found it quite peculiar that both BMW of Freeport and Bayside BMW did not have any fluid in stock and both looked into it and said it was on backorder from BMW. Needless to say I got a little nervous but it's all good now!

BMW dealerships get parts and fluids from a central BMW warehouse in the region.
BMW Parts Department can search for parts in their computer in the area and get them delivered or send you there.

BMW USA HQ is in NJ. I think there is a huge BMW Parts warehouse nearby.
