It’s a piggyback box - Running on a 2020 M40i.

Their website only shows the 2019 M40 engine as an option to select (355 HP)?

They have a G20 M340i as a development car at the moment and have been developing maps for the B58TU - the maps can actually be updated via the app from their servers.

I’ve been very happy so far, car is significantly quicker mid range. Other options would be TMC or DTUK. Also JB4 if you’re feeling athletic and can successfully route cables through the firewall!

Isn't this quicker than the lighter M340? Well with the 1' roll out that is. At a minimum doesn't seem to have a weight penalty.

M340 will shine in 60-130mph test since lighter.

X3M40i will shine dig and 1/4 because heavier car better grip

I am wondering if visiting a BM3 dealer for a custom tune, instead of sending out the ECU.
Like I said I might as well get a custom dyno tune at this point.

Since I have the new software. Once they tune it with BM3, will I be able to use the other features of having on the fly adjustments burbles or switching maps?
Or is that still fully locked and only interchangeable with a actual tuner visit or sending out ECU again?

I sent BM3 a question but no response. Anyone here know?

Seems to be that downpipe in the newer bmws don't make a difference in top end performance. Stg1 was faster in my opinion.

Downpipe does start making a difference with time. Your tune would soon or late start melting the stock primary cats and this would restrict the flow and increase the back pressure.

I wanted to try out BM3, to see what options they have available as its almost April and the BMW software update was released back in November. So I was hoping that maybe there are some tuning options available.

I was using MHD and the results were good, in the beta but the last time I was able to flash with them was beginning of January. Thats when I updated the BMW software in the Idrive. And it has been a very slow process getting any ETA from them.

Since Im sure they are pretty much fully focused on the F97 vehicles and the GR Supra.

Yesterday I contacted BM3, and they wanted me to send them a DME software code for them to review if they can do anything. And I got this reply-

It does look like you have the latest software update installed, which prevents it being flashed directly

On another hand, and I failed to mention this initially - we currently do not have support for 2020 X3 M40i, only 2017-2019.

When i spoke to BM3 they told me they were working on trying to crack it so we can flash it. And said to follow their social media to see when they release it

Yeah MHD has been trying to crack it for over 3 months. Point is anyone with a 2020 and new software is stuck with 0 tuning options.

That's wack!! I mean i just got the car so i can enjoy the power i have now. I still haven't broke it in yet to feel the torque of this car. I've gotten little bits of it here and there but no full throttle! I hope they'll be able to crack it. I'm sure they will. Worst worst case, If I'm desperate. I'll ship the ECU to unlock it

Side question. Have these companies ever ran into these issues when they have to crack the ECU in order to flash the car? Also have they ever failed to crack it also?

Yes and yes. Its not so much as failing and not being to crack it. Its how much time / resources they want to put in. Sometimes if a company tries and doesnt get results they move on to different projects. Or more profitable ones. I mentioned in the reply from BM3 they have nothing for the 2020 cracked or not thats officially out. Theres a beta (for the old software). But that could be one tomorrow or next year.

It's not so much that you can't have a 2020 with BM3, it's that you can't have a 2020 with software newer than, what was it, 11-2020? and have BM3 work. I have a 2020 with the older release before and BM3 works great! That may change when I go to the dealer in 8000 miles.

Has anyone with a 2020 tried the Active Autowerke tune? Over on the B58 forum they say they've gotten past the latest software version and the tune is working via OBD2
