Telematics upgrade to 4g..Now Connected Drive items missing..
Hello,
I have recently got my old telematics unit to 4g module with the hopes of getting my connected drive services back. I have replaced the unit myself and my local dealer in Chicago did the coding and IMEI update. Now, I do not have anything under my Connected Drive menu item (particularly the 'messages') to receive the code from BMW to start my Connected Drive services. I do have 'messages' under Office Menu but I am not sure it is the same thing. Is there a way to code this using BimmerCode perhaps? Thanks for all the help in advance, Ozzie |

Probably not. When 3G sunsetted…and BMW sent out the message that those with 3G connectivity would end…even when 4G modules are installed…it appears BMW will not reactivate the services based on your VIN. At least I’ve never read any success stories even with the upgraded modules installed.
Good luck if you get it accomplished….I’m sure many, many forum members will beat a path to your door for how you got it done. The messages in OFFICE are text messages that are being sent from your smart phone and shared with your BMW if it is paired and text messages has been activated.

I read a lot on this back when 3G was going under, and all people talked about was replacing something from a donor car, and getting a Connected Drive subscription based on the donor cars VIN. I can't recall if anybody made this actually work, because the talk has long since died down. Doing that met my "I'd buy a new car first" standard, so I stopped reading.

I wonder if anyone has a "Class Action lawsuit" going about this. These were some major things to be discontinued that people paid a lot of money for. Especially things like the Emergency SOS and vehicle recovery.

The loss of service comes from the cellular provider...not BMW. So you'd have to go after them, too (AT&T, etc).
