What’s going on here

Just picked up my x4 vehicle last week. At the dealership the AGM battery voltage was showing 14.4. Now after 600km it is down to 8.7. This is from the display on the right side by the rev counter. The car has no messages, warning signs or other. It starts up instantly. Is this normal. Any one seen this?

I would place a volt meter on the battery to confirm the display reading. At 8.7 volts that AGM battery would be trashed and in need of replacement.

Thanks. This was going to be my next move. However, since I am 10min away from the dealership and I will be going in that direction, I will drop by tomorrow and see what the BMW geniuses have to say.

One thing to add. At the bottom of the voltage curve the sign for the battery is in blue.

I believe you’re confusing that with the fuel economy gauge based on the numbers you’ve given, as that sounds like L/100km as if you’re driving quite a bit of highway, which would mean a lower fuel consumption number.

In Eco Pro mode, the top right is the instantaneous fuel economy (with average marked with a number), while the bottom shows if the car gets into regenerative braking. I’ve attached an image depicting what it shows.

In Comfort mode, the top right shows the % of power used, while the bottom is also regenerative braking.

Of course there is a selection that can change it to display the tachometer instead, or it’ll switch to the tachometer if you switch to Sport transmission mode or Sport driving mode.

Read the later post by Tim@codemybimmer, you are not reading battery voltage.

Thanks guys.
My reading was in comfort mode only, on the outer side of the curve where the battery icon shows. The inside shows the L/100km. What Tim mentioned in his reply for comfort mode seems to be the one most plausible.
So there is no display of the voltage?
Do previous model years also have regenerative braking displays?
I just wish this was a real 48v mild hybrid instead of a pretender.

Voltage display, not that I know of, except using readers or looking in the hidden menu. The other option is a simple voltmeter which is made to fit in the power socket.

Yes, all Efficient Dynamic models, over the years, have a simple (blue) display when alternator is getting the 'free' charge on the over-run and braking.
