Tires and Rims
As most of you know, there are very few RFT options for my 20 inch staggered rims on my M40i. I’m in my late 70’s and don’t see myself dealing with a flat tire on the side of the road. I had a flat on my Alenza001 and drove it to the dealer.
I really would like to find an all season RFT that would fit my 699 rims yet it seems hopeless. Question: would I be better off going to a 19 inch rim and find All Season RFT tires? |

just my opinion, get the non RFT's. I have the same wheels and rims. they make the Michelin PS4 All Season in our size plus plenty others. if you get a flat, AAA or BMW road side, or throw a spare back there like i did... or get a plug kit. flat tires that can't be plugged or patched are rare and just my opinion again, not worth the sacrifice of paying double, for summer only run flats, that last half as long... so they almost cost 4 times as much, per tire. furthermore if you're far from a "dealer" more than 50 miles the run flat is useless and a false sense of security. where is that line drawn? to get to my brother's house in Tampa from here is 250 miles, through the middle of no where, how on earth will a run flat help if you're halfway, 125 miles back home and 125 miles to destination... ONLY a spare will help you then... and it's pretty far to tow as well... and what if you have people with you with luggage? who is towing you and you're family and dog and luggage 200 miles back home LOL?

As far as RFT from BMW goes (Front 245/45R20; Rear 275/40R20), there are
The Michelin Latitude is pretty pricy and the Pirelli P-Zero is about the same price as Bridgestone Alenza. Since I have never tried the Michelin Latitude or the Pirelli P-Zero, I don't know if they are any good. Last edited by mattsheng; 05-30-2023 at 05:54 PM.. |

First, you will feel every little tar strip and road imperfection. Second, you'll be lucky to get 11-12k miles on them.

My pzeros lasted 12kmi. I swapped to dws 06+ in non rft and couldn’t be happier. I’d look into non rft and AAA.

You’ll struggle to find a high performance tyre that’s suitable for the M40 and get high mileage out of it and have very good road handling qualities as the rubber compounds will be soft for it to stick to the roads.
Was the same with my Golf R, I had Michelin PS4’s and averaged only 10/11k miles before requiring a new set. I don’t mind those figures as long as the tyre wear is even and the handling is fine until you reach minimum thread, it’s the compromise you have to accept good handling, sticky tyres but you may only get 10/12k miles before having to change them. Unless you give up on some performance and choose an all season performance tyre, in which case you’ll gain extra mileage but give up on top end performance in handling. Which is why I like using good summer performance tyres then swap over to winters but they’re pros and cons for every setup.

the problem is all the tires you listed, have 2 problems. 1. they are RFT's. 2. they are summer compounds.
I have the lattitudes on my 30i and I'm at 12k and they are getting there, driving like grandma. I have an m40i on order but even if I end up keeping the 30i for some reason, I will switch to NON RFT all seasons. problem solved.

I am selling a brand new set of Michelin Latitudes if anyone is interested. I replaced them when I had 128 miles on the car. They are located in NY/NJ area.

[QUOTE=Keefy;30183114]How do you feel the Michelin Latitudes are performing?
I guess ok, you feel every bump on not perfect roads, otherwise they feel fine. I don’t know exact measurement of tread I’ll check they measured it when i was in for oil recently, I’ll look but they are definitely not lasting much longer. I would say tread life is bad compared to the same size tire all season non run flat … in fact I’m going to measure now and will give you that and mileage

Ok I’m at 13.400 miles.
Fronts aren’t terrible at 7/32 Rears are at about 5/32 at best That’s not really good. An all season will be at porobably double… wonder why the rear is so much lower, guess that’s our staggered bonus lol. And I’m the only driver driving like grandma That being said my sons m340 now had the ps4as square and his backs are already worn. I think all bmws just eat up rear tires lol

Ok, just found this All Season RFT that fits our M401and has the approved load of 103 and 106. LEXANI RFX Plus. Priority Tire. $800.00 vs Pirelli at $1,400.00.
The risk-they’re an off shore company from either So Koren or Thailand. I’m trying to get more info on these. You can see the data at Priority Tire. Last edited by Navypilot; 06-02-2023 at 05:49 PM.. |

S, but it’s not like I’m ripping out of stoplights doing burnouts, I’ve not ever spun the tires , I got that out of my system in the hellcat. But it could be as my sons m340 seems to eat the rears too
