New X3m in car accident:(
I’m new here and hoping to get feedback. I was hit by a red light runner in a full size truck on the back passenger side. My concern is the integrity of the vehicle after the repairs and the loss in value. Does anyone have any experience with these concerns? I’m absolutely heartbroken over this as this is my first BMW after only ever having AMG’s and I will never not have an M now. I will add photos as soon as I figure out how to do it.

That really sucks glad you are alright and nobody (hopefully) was in the passenger seat.
Unless you had "diminished value insurance" that would offset the diminishes value at trade in time it will hurt. I had a $20,000 non contact incident and the BWM dealership was offering peanuts if I traded in a 4 years old fully loaded MKX. If you plan to keep it for a long time, don't loose sleep over it. Get it repair by BMW and with todays technology should be good as new. |

Damn. I’m glad you’re okay. I actually went through a similar experience at the beginning of last year.
From my experience the value of your car plummets as soon as the airbags deploy. That shouldn’t be a problem though if you’re planning on keeping it long like JJ said. As for the structural integrity, if your chassis and engine are fine there shouldn’t be any problems. BMW are more than well equipped to fix your car back to what it was. Do try to upload the pictures to give us a better idea. You can either post a link or edit your post, go to manage attachements then attach files from your computer. |

Thanks for sharing. Scary moment - no doubt. I hope you are OK.
Was the vehicle leased or purchased? At this point, the insurance company has to make an assessment whether the vehicle can be repaired. The process is now in their hands. |

Have the repairs performed at a BMW certified body shop. That way you will have peace of mind that the repairs were done according to OEM specs.

Still couldn't figure out how to post a picture but I did add a profile pic of my car if that helps. I was told that it handled the impact very well considering the guy was doing about 40 in a 2500 Chevy Silverado. It is at a BMW certified shop with about $17,000 estimate as of now before even starting. My question to all of you is what would your thoughts be if you were going to purchase an M that has had body damage. Would you never consider it? Im afraid I've lost all value in it. Thanks for the responses.

I wouldn't personal purchase a M car if I known it's been in a wreck but plenty of other people do.
I had two accident in my prior car. One being a AMG. Repairs were also $17-$20k. AMG was rear ended and the other car was semi Tboned/swiped. Both car after repair drove fine with no issue. Only complaint on both car was def paint work wasn't like new. I could tell it's been resprayed but not wrecked. I even had the amg repaired at a exotic body shop that did lambo and Ferrari. Anyways. Both car insurance paid only $1500-$2000 for diminish value claim. You also have to pay a diminish value assessor $500-$800 for insurance to even bother with the diminish claim. So really only end up getting $1000 back from DV. Both car traded in below market value due to wreck. Amg I lost about $10k |

Let's get it fix and go from there, you might not notice any difference and might kept it for a long time. |

I rather lose money then get injured. At the end of the day a car can be replaced. You can't. |

Wow, I appreciate all the kind words. My injuries were very minor and I truly believe it is because my car took the hit like a champ. I was lucky to be alone as I was hit on the side of my sons car seat.
Thank you all for the responses. I'll let you know how it goes. |

It's a car and you're alright. Get it fixed and drive it. The older it gets, the less anyone will care you got hit. You can sue the driver for the diminished value, if you can prove there is diminished value. As a professional musician, I have a damage and diminished value policy on my instruments but never would on a car.

Glad your ok!!!! The car can be repaired and I would look at going after the guys insurance company for diminished value. I also live in Cali and people drive like morons here.
Good luck with the repair and don't sweat what the car could be worth. |

When I saw this I instantly felt terrible for you bru. Glad you are ok, cars can be mended, but people, not so much.
Agreed with all other posters, get it fixed at a certified BMW shop and you should be just fine. If you plan on selling it anytime soon, just be up front about the accident, it's all you can do. |

Idk if California allows you to make a diminished value claim but something else to look into since you own it.
