That newly updated Jag is just gorgeous. The sound, the interior, the looks. I would love one of these and I hate SUVs. They have really worked some magic. The interior is so far above the other 3 in quality and style. And the sound. Possibly the best sounding car on the planet at this point in time, just as we farewell this type of musical symphony forever.

Totally agree. I recently went to look at one at my local Jaguar dealer and the interior blew me away. Much nicer than anything else out there at the price, and that noise really makes it something special. Ironically, the engine itself is a bit old and outdated, but it certainly produces the power.

No V8 BMW Used. Why Not?

I just cant see this being a fair comparison when they did not use an X5M?

I didn't hear engine staging, I think they just did it the old fashion way by brake holding with their foot. In addition, the roll race showed the BMW will trap higher and is the faster car..... something just went wrong at the start.

X5M is not faster than the X3M in the short and the X3M already handled business on the roll.

This video should also serve as a reminder to not test performance in ECO mode. The X3M was night and day from ECO to Sport + and pulled away from the entire pack all the way through the mile.

Because the cars compared were of the compact class and direct competitors of each other, the X5 is midsized and priced much higher. The Alfa also had a 6-cylinder.

X5M is a class up. Costs like $30-40K more. All four cars in that set are direct competitors.

I think all of us in the US should appreciate how much cheaper these vehicles are over here than they are in Europe. These vehicles cost 80-90k mostly optioned here but in the UK they start at an equivalent of 103k without options for the alfa, 108k for the Jag and 117k for the X3MC.

In regards to the Jag, I had a first year Fpace S. I loved the body style and the look of the S and SVR trim when it eventually came out. But I think they actually went backwards a bit on the refresh for the exterior. It feels a bit glazed over and softened compared to the original. The interior refresh is much much better than the previous version.

These videos are entertaining but rarely provide any info one can use to gauge true performance differences. If one were really interested in sorting that out, just take the four to a proper Strip and get slips on however many runs you can. Provide tank volume, octane, and tire psi for each. DA would be helpful to have as a relative control. You'd get interval times to .00x sec and 0-60ft will sort out bad launches if outliers exist.

Same for tracks - four with same driver one right after another, get two or more runs and average them.

But takes more time, effort and expense for that kind of analysis, and those videos won't bring in the popcorn as these do, so doubt we'll ever see 'em. In the meantime, just enjoy these shows for what they are...

The Jag 5.0 V8 is a wonderful engine that was ahead of its time in 2010 when launched. I had a 2010 XF Supercharged that was rated at 470hp from the engine... Well when I ran low 12s with it I suspected its got more... And sure enough when I dynoed it, it put down 462rwhp. For reference, on the same dyno, we just ran a E64 M6 with exhaust and it put down 431rwhp and a 5.0 coyote Mustang with bolt ons did 399whp. So the Jag was pretty darn stout for a stock car!

Stock X5 M will walk away from x3M, v8 is no joke. just like M5 - it is in a different league even with all the weight

They trap the same mostly. X5/3m they wont walk each other except who had the jump. They are in another luxury class but v8 means nothing, they weight 5300+

Going to agree with MaxGainz, this statement isn't true and the video you posted has a X5M vs a RWD M4. The 5M and 3M 0-60 times and quarter mile times are very similar. All you have to do is look at the dragy times posted in this forum and then go over the F95 forum and look at their dragy times. Even their tuned times keep them similar.

Agree, and I actually think an X3MC without pano and spare would win based on slips with everything else being equal (tank volume, octane, proper tires, and reasonably knowledgeable Drivers). I've been looking for formal (not Dragy) slips on stock X5MC, so if anybody has some please share. I mentioned in another thread I'd like to place into a spreadsheet to compare interval times with our top 5 stock X3MC, but I have yet to find stock slips online.

Will be very rare to find a drag strip slip on a X5MC. Dragy is taking over since it includes aero conditions and slope. iPhone vs pay phone. I’ve been running at multiple strips in multiple states since 1978. But now prefer Dragy since I personally tested it vs my Vbox vs my NHRA track on the same day. Accuracy vs Precision. Accuracy is the truth. Precision is repeatability.

Dragy is an excellent resource and it’s ease of use for anyone anywhere makes it a great tool. I use it every time I go to the Strip and always compare with the slips (sharing some examples again here). But there are unknowns which make it less dependable than slips for comparative reference - no idea of location to understand road surface quality, and the slope varies same lane same hour (see lines 12/13 and 23/24 image 7) by as much as 1.2% and the error isn’t consistent to plus or minus, to name a few. For most we enjoy it as a fun hobby and Dragy Leaderboards provide for discussion, but as reference standard I still trust formal slips.
