74.7

so it has grown, by 2.7" in length and 0.6" in width
Weight looks to be about 50lbs more which isn't too bad. But was hoping for a small drop in weight even with the small increase in size.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, of course, but this thing is still ugly, and anonymous. The way the belt line kicks up past the C-pillar is typical of most cheap, ugly CUV's. BMW needs to hire some designers from Audi or Porsche. Or even Kia.

yeah looks like 47 lbs more. But engine may weigh a bit more (guessing), and the 19" standard wheels probably add some weight to the old 18" standard M wheels.
don't forgot about the standard backup camera too
the 28i vs new 30i is only a 6 lb difference!

overall I was hoping for a slight drop in weight since they always talk about new lightweight materials they are using. size increase is negligible.

Why M40i has much higher air resistance? 0.33 vs 0.29 for other versions. Something went wrong with "air curtains"?

You can look more into it but here's the gist. They come standard on most, if not all, Toyota and Lexus vehicles. Auto high beam standard where as BMW charges you $500 for something that should be standard on a $55k base price vehicle...

But BMWs have improved driving dynamics that you can not get on the cars you are comparing features with

So you asked the question first implying no one else has them and when corrected you say hard to believe...

It's always been like that a comparable Lexus has more options already included than a BMW. For a German brand a lot of options are extras.

BMW isn't what it used to be in terms of driving dynamics. Perhaps the new models are better. That aside, most people nowadays want a comfortable vehicle rather than a sportier one, especially if it's a family hauler. With that said, Audi, a German brand, offers similar standard options (called pre-sense). They also have leather as standard while BMW charges for everything. Been a BMW fan for almost 20 years now and I'm starting to see why more and more people are moving to other brands.

Generally like it. I do think the Grill Size to Headlight Size ratio is a bit off. Grilles are too large and in your face in my honest opinion

Yeah... it is almost 14% higher... Words "performance" and "sport" usually mean additional effort regarding aerodynamics as well. In this case it is more like installing random "spoilers" from e-bay and doing more harm than good.

In any case, this bodes well for the G20 release next year. I'm sure the 740i and 540i will eventually get updated too (740i is still using the 322hp version, even).

Great looking SUV - best looking of the bunch compared to the Q5 and GLC in my opinion.
Well this confirms that I'm waiting for the new G20 M340i then with its 355hp. I just seriously hope that they offer the new M340i to us Americans with a Manual Transmission. Or else my only option will be to get a used 2016/2017 340i with a Manual. And you are right, I do think that the 2019 540i will get the newer B58 engine too with 355hp. I also hope that the 740i catches up too.

If I can lease this for under $650 a month full loaded with $5,000 out of pocket. I AM DOWN!!! The new X3M lease will be about $900 a month and will be a reach for a new home owner.

This new X3 is a beauty though. Im sure the B58 will shine...

That's because they aren't standard in the Q5. Those features are part of an $1800 "Driver's Assistance Package."

I really don't care what is standard in a Toyota or Lexus because I do not like their vehicles and would never consider any of their products.

I don't necessarily disagree, but the market has spoken. Audi has done the same thing with the gap between their A* and S* midrange products, and Mercedes now has *300 and *43. There is no more tweener 6 cylinder model. What they could do is offer a 300hp-ish four cylinder option to fill the gap, but so far that hasn't happened (well, Volvo is all four cylinder now - so they are actually doing this). In the future we may see entries like that from the Germans, but for right now you get the I4, the 6 cylinder, and then the super-duper 6 cylinder (V8 in Mercedes case, for now) from M/AMG/Audi-Sport-RS.
This just makes competitors from Jaguar/Ford/Infiniti/Lexus much more appealing. You are looking at a $10-$14k jump from the 28i version to the M40i. With Audi and Mercedes doing the same, this just means the M, S and AMG brand are aim for premium positioning once more at the expense of forcing consumers to go for base models otherwise.

This unfortunately just pushes me to look at other alternatives such as the Explorer Sport. The X3 M40i will most likely start around mid $50ks possibly push mids or highs $60ks optioned out. That is X5 territory at that point.

The only thing I don't like about the new X3 are the silver buttons throughout the interior. I hate the look of the shiny silver buttons and think it makes the interior look very cheap. I will reserve final judgement until I see it in person, but if they look anywhere near as bad as they do in the photos, it will cause me to write off the new X3 and pick up an SQ5 instead.

It's standard for the 2018 model. There are more advanced options if you're so inclined. However, the 2018 model comes standard with those collision avoidance features.

Edit: I stand a bit corrected. Audi does come standard with some features similar to Lexus but not all that lexus offers as standard.

Not bad.. not bad at all. I actually quite like it. It'll be a hard decision between this, the Audi SQ5, and Porsche Macan next year for the wife.

SERIOUSLY? This is the best BMW could come up with? Been there done that front end look from the M140i?! Which looks frumpy and god awful. And now they're also sharing more parts than ever before, such as the exact same lower dash board and glove box from the G30 5-series which indicates cost cutting to maximize profits.

I REALLY hope BMW doesn't continue this front end trend into the rest of their X-models for the new generation X5 and X7. If so then they have lost a BMW customer after having purchased 14 different BMW's in my life.

BMW seriously get it together.

The tires look REALLY skinny on this thing...and there's something "off" about the relationship between the headlights and the grill...

Not feeling it from these pics, but perhaps it will look better in person.

And is it still on shipping blocks? I know it's an SUV, but damn that's some intense wheel gap. It almost looks like they put the wrong body on this chassis. Very strange stance.

Big alloys and aggressive bumpers is what sell. Nowadays SUV have skinner tyre profiles than a Ferrari 360 Moderna had in 1999.

That's always the case on more powerful models due to higher down force and wider wheels. Could be different aero on bottom of vehicle too.
