Question Coil Spring Issue

Vehicle: 2011 BMW X3 (35i)

I'm attempting to change out my front struts. Got the old assembly out (right side) and was going to reuse the old coil but noticed the coil spring doesn't stand up straight -- when laid flat it always bends off to the side. Is this normal? So far using the compression tool to accommodate the new strut (FCS 335825R) has been difficult -- i can't get it to compress enough to get the top cap on.

They are usually very deformed after removal. Once you compress them they will regain their intended shape. you should be fine.
