my question is this going to change pricing? Will they increase the price of the m340 to be similar to the base m3? and move the base me up in price?

Let's hope not, to get an inline 6 in a BMW the price is already pretty steep. Base M3 will likely increase with next generation.

If they are going to call it M then the M340i should be wide body. I love that look on the M3. Something like the WRX (non STI) and Corvette Grand Sport. Slower versions of the top car but maintain the look.

The traditional M buyer from years past are not the same M buyer today.

M buyers of today remove the summer spec tires to put on all seasons... Don't even get me started on that.

Say what to that.

Is an $130,000 M850i that much less quality built than an M8, I f-in doubt it. Do you F80 and F10 M guys pull up to a M850i and say "well that's not an ///M..."

So unless someone here who knows engines, a BMW engineer or certified mechanic gets me a f-ing tech sheet of side-by-side comparisons of all the internals and components of M340i compared to to an F80 S55 everyone needs to STFU as it's all hearsay. NOT one damn person in 20 f-ing pages has broken down the engineering and schematics of these cars just a bunch assumptions i.e. ass out of you and me.
M850i isn't a REAL ///M. So yes I'll pull up, roll down my window and laugh at the driver in his fake ///M.

Regarding dropping "performance" from the name, I always called the m340i an "M340i"
Has anyone called it an "mperformance340i" before because I don't think we ever did but who cares. Everyone's still gonna know it doesn't have bespoke parts.

We all know who will defend BMW's move and who would not.

"True" enthusiasts will most likely move away from BMW, not because of this move but because of what BMW has been doing since they went forced induction. Current ///M cars don't have the DNA true ///M cars had during the glory days. This is my opinion based on having the opportunity to own several ///M cars in different chassis.

It's marketing and it works. There are a tons of people out there who are waiting to purchase a M package car and say they have an M, however those who had real M's have transitioned to a Porsche.
