Help. Drivetrain Malfunction Error 2013 X3 28i
Hey everyone. I just bought a 2013 X3 today from a BMW dealer a couple hours away. It has 60k miles on it so no warranty but I looked it over with some service techs and they showed me paperwork that the timing chain and turbos had been replaced but everything currently looks good with the car.
The drive home was fine, but when driving around town just now, I got a Drivetrain Malfunction error and a reverse light error (less concerned about that). I was a minute from home so continued home and then looked under the hood. Everything seems ok visually except a small hose seems to be unplugged. See attached images. I have no idea what this is. Should it be plugged in? Could this have caused the error? Would love any advice or help. Thanks Mike |

Yeah, you are going to want to plug that back in.
Did it feel super sluggish? The line that comes from under the cover, from the back of the engine at the vac pump. this connects to the cover which had a vacuum tank. the solenoid controls the amount of vac applied to the waste gate solenoid. effectively your turbo is disabled with that line not attached and likely the reason for the code and DT malf. Curious to know why it came off, it is usually under vac, and really no way to be exposed to boost. maybe dry rotted? Mike |
