Estimated MPG of X3M?
Anyone have an idea of the MPG of the upcoming X3M. It has a 17.2 gallon tank, was wondering what the highway trip distance would be? Perhaps 400 miles or so?

I think this picture taken from the video posted by RNM will replace a lot of Marketing numbers. It seems the car had tank filled up, and drove only 5 miles. on the left you have the amount of miles left. Of course it is on a race track, but once again they drove only 5 miles.

In our experience - you don’t get representative mpg until after car has covered at least 10,000 miles. It takes that long for engine to properly loosen up and the adaptive software in the engine and transmission ecus to adapt to your driving style and habits. Our M40i has now covered the first 3000km and has averaged 12.3l/100km so far. I expect that to drop to around 11l/100km after the first service at 12,000km. I can’t imagine an X3M competition with 503hp to do much better than 12 to 13l/100km after the engine has bedded down properly. |

As long as it gets better than my experience in my M3 at 16-17 combined mpg! I'm not complaining but would be nice to do better.

I think like most Ms it will be a little over 300-330 miles with moderate driving.

There is no way it is going to get 22 mpg combined. I have an 2019 X3 with the 2.0 that I drive for work and I currently get 22.4 mpg combined. Sitting at 17,000 miles total so I think that's a pretty good sample size. I drive pretty well mannered. Occasionally give it a good punch getting on highways but otherwise nothing aggressive. I'd love to see the X3M get close to that MPG but I'd bet it's closer to 18mpg combined in real world driving.

I have a 2017 X4 M40i with about 30K miles. The car says 17.4 mpg average and I think that's about right. However, it's nearly all city stop and go driving and I have a heavy foot.

X3M Comp - 2,075 miles. I average 15 mpg in Phoenix. About 50/50 city and highway with some elevation changes. For comparison, I got 19 mpg in my F80 M3 Comp on the same duty.

1,200 miles mixed driving avg. 14.8mpg (F98). Frequent stops at the petrol station for 93 octane.

What is the range after you fill up? 250? After test driving it, I am not surprised. They really did a great job with the engine and tuning -- it's really using all the power. My 2011 V8 RR (supercharged) weighs 1000 pounds more and even with over 500 horsepower lifted on 32's still got 16 mpg, lol. But the engine tuning was terrible.

Well, I can just give ya my personal readings. In my wife's M40i used mostly on freeways, she is averaging about 18mpg. It was about 16 when I drove it. I have about 3,000 miles on my X3MC and I drive a combo of city and freeway. I accelerate quickly (enough to get it to pop in the first 1-3 gears), but not slam it to the floor (perhaps on occasion). I am currently getting around 14. Kinda what I was expecting considering. I kinda knew I was not buying the most fuel efficient car... I drive fairly conservative as I usually have my two small kids sitting behind me. Not sure if this helps. I'd say, if you are used to speeding around and like to punch it, etc. it only goes down from there. Probably lucky to get 10-12.
That said, a few things: 1. That gauge number fluctuates depending on how/where you are driving. On the freeway, that number will increase. Stop light to stop light, it will decrease. So, it's just a guide to help you not be stranded somewhere. 2. I have not played around with it yet as I am still having too much fun. The M has "rev/boost" levels you can adjust. I am still driving on full and everything in Sport Plus mode as it's the reason I bought an M-car. So assuming this is the case, it may help. By how much, I may or may not ever know... 3. I find it very unlikely to get anything above 20. Not sure about the regular M version, but I have not found (or really looked for) an "eco" setting on the MC. 4. I'd be more aware of the tires and the $800+ for a new set of rears too frequently... 5. Comparing my time with the M40, I fill up 3 times now for the same amount of driving I'd fill up twice with before... |
