Cars are stolen all the time while the owner is pumping gas. It's a good idea to lock your doors.

According to the manual, only at speeds up to approx 50 mph unless you have the Driving Assistance Professional package (the one with the radar cruise control). Then it is up to approx 155 mph.

It also appears to be dependent on other factors such as the stability control settings and the warning time setting.

Word to the wise, I wouldn't rely on it 100%. But, I am guessing that the red warning that shows up in the HUD/instruments and the loud tone will be enough to get you to notice what is happening and slam on the brakes.

How do I keep the vehicle running when I get out? For example, I check the mail on my way home (there's a centralized community mailbox at the entrance to my subdivision). When I get out (with the key in my pocket), most of the time the car shuts itself off. Once in a while, it stays running and I can get back in, put it in drive, and pull away. I can't tell what the criteria are to keep it running.

In LCI, there is no Start/Stop button anymore?
If so, I think the only way is to code that function OFF with Bimmercode/etc.

Where are people's keys when someone gets in their car and drives off? If they are in your pocket the car should recognize that there is no key and not start right?

Try putting it in Sport mode first. If your car is in comfort or eco-pro and you put it in Park and open the door, it will likely shut off (probably using the same parameters it would use if you came to a stop while it was running). I don't think there's any way around this. You might also try tapping the shift left over to the left to use the sport program. But I can't remember if that resets itself on shutdown or when you shift to Park.

I can’t remember the setting, but on my 2021 I can get out of my X3 with the key in my pocket and it stays running. Works with my wife’s 2020 X5 as well.

For me, it almost always shuts the engine off. Might be an LCI thing.

I just got BimmerCode and an OBD dongle. I coded Video in Motion (for the kiddos) and Video from USB but I can't figure out how to actually play a video.
I threw a mkv on a FAT32 formatted USB stick but I don't see any new options in media, and trying YouTube on CarPlay, I only got audio.

Second question, is it possible to code out (or at least lower the intensity) on the seatbelt tightening adjustment thing when you first drive off?

Thanks!

EDITED TO ADD: USB Stick is plugged in the USB-A port by the cupholders.

EDIT EDIT: Finally got the car to see the USB stick, reformatted to exFAT instead for FAT32, I can play the mkv but I only get audio, no video. Help?

Anyone experiencing a crazy amount of brake dust on their rims....mine get crazy filthy dirty; it's certainly not late braking or excessive braking.

Your thoughts -

Our 06 X3, 11 328XDrive, 21 X3 and my 07 Z4MR have/had excessive brake dust, but not excessive brake pad wear histories.

Our 14 Subaru Outback didn't have this level of brake dust.

Whatsup??

Its the composition of the pads. My 2016 Camaro 2SS with Brembo's is horrible as well.

My 2022 has way less brake dust than I thought it would. I can go months without washing them and they only have a light dusting on them. I think I remembered reading that BMW switched to a different pad composition. Ceramic I’m guessing. My E36 M3’s wheels were black after a week. Hated it.

I'm so envious. My 2021 M40i has horrible brake dust. My 2011 335d had almost none.

I wonder if it also has anything to do with the LCI being a mild hybrid and having regenerative braking?

I'd be curious to know if any LCI M40d, 30i, or 20i owners with the M-Sport brakes have better/worse brake dust.

Washer Fluild level

Does the G01 have an indication that you are low on windshield washer fluid? The only mention in the owner's manual is a warning not to use the system if the level is low: "When the washer fluid reservoir is empty, the washer pump cannot work as intended. There is a risk of damage to property, among other potential damage. Do not use the washer system when the washer fluid reservoir is empty." (p147).

Keep squirting. You will find that which you seek :-)

In other words - there is a warning when low fluid.

Thanks. Is it documented anywhere? I don't have my X3 yet (build week 26) so I was searching the documentation (got to have something to do while waiting for my car to be built). A friend of mine owns a Honda CR-V was complaining his car doesn't have a warning. His wife's F25 X3 had a warning and he was wondering if the G01 had one.

I was wondering if anyone in the forums know if MY2023 X3's will be getting Idrive8? I've been searching but couldn't seem to find any answers.
