Update: have another CEL light start, under 1 week from the last one. This is the third time in a month.

Last time, they replaced two injectors and two spark plugs, from a rough running cylinder and air-fuel mixture too lean.

What would you do?

I would demand their best diag tech look at it and stop throwing parts at it.

If this is the 3rd time it's gone in, I'd tell them you want it declared a lemon if it's not fixed this time as well as call BMW NA to inform them of the issue and potential lemon. That'll get plenty of attention on it to get it fixed. They hate lemons

In my state, it's 2x for a serious/safety defect and 4x (both within 24 months) if not.

The are going to replace o2 sensors now.

Would you accept the vehicle to drive before the sensors are replaced? If this were you, what's your next move?

Tell them to extended road test it to make sure CEL doesn't return before giving back to you. That way they can ensure it's all good before you keep bringing it back over and over.

2021 X3 M40i with 28K mi. It's a CPO that still has warranty.

Drivetrain Malfunction message came up right after setting it to Sport Plus to pass another car. 50mi into my vacation trip.

Took it back to the dealer for a wastegate issue for staying opened longer than required. Will take the car back to the dealership after my vacation for full diagnosis and repair.

Went back to the dealership. They took the car in and updated the software in hopes that that would fix the problem.

Today, after several months, I get the same issue. This time, I was able to erase the code, re-start the engine, and limp mode was gone.
My car is due for an oil change here in the next month, so I'll take it in and tell the mechanic that they'll have to do better. Maybe replace the wastegate?

Not gonna lie I do drive the car hard but I mean it's an M I'm not gonna drive it like a pussy LOL I deff don't go near the redline every often but I definitely have my fun in sport plus mode.
Happened to me three separate times over 2020 and in addition to the other trip from Seattle to Phoenix I had to pull over three times due to excessive engine heat and wait 20 to 30 minutes with a vehicle to cool down, it went into limp mode during that time as well. Absolutely no explanations and not even an excuse for why it happened. only way to avoid a major out of pocket is purchasing a huge aftermarket warranty which I’ve done.
