Any one DIY engine oil change?
I may change in between factory required changes. Which seem to be every 9000 miles

My friend whos been a senior BMW technician since 2009 said this is the first motor hes seen require a 1 hour oil change. At least what dealer charges. Something about the way the motor is mounted

To do an oil change on the S58 in the F97/F98 the repair instructions require that you remove the strut brace and the complete air box to access the oil filter. This is why the labor time for an oil change is higher on this vehicle.

I just got mine done last week as we get free maintenance for the first four years but I shudder to think about what dealers will charge for this.

So it seems pretty easy to change the oil although no one has posted any procedures about that. Seems the oil filter is another problem although if you have factory service you can change the oil in between

Wow that is one hell of a procedure.
It seems like it would be a good idea to measure the oil coming out in one of those pails with increments on the side so you can put that exact amount back in. |

DIY oil change just completed. It's straight forward and doesn't require removal of the airbox unless you have large forearms. I was able to change the filter with the airbox in place. Make sure you loosen the oil filter housing completely and allow the oil to drain out for a few minutes before removing the housing/filter assembly to avoid making a mess. The oil drain plug is probably one of the most easily accessible I've ever come across.

It's similar to most vehicles oil change procedure. Filter is element style. |
