I know my X4MC has an AGM in the rear. I popped the under floor liner to check before hooking it up to a tender.

I bought 2 of these CTEK MXS 5.0 off of AMAZON, one for our 2023 X1 M-Sport & one for our 2023 X3 M-Sport, as we travel a lot and leave our vehicles locked up. Just set them got to "AGM" and they work GREAT!!! The X1 has iDrive 8, so it has a "Deep Sleep Mode". I can't find a "Deep Sleep Mode" for the X3 as it has iDrive 7. Hope this was helpful..

Was my first mod. I only use my car every couple weeks unless I’m making my regular 1200 mile commute back to PA 4 times a year.

Hi guys,

I'm coming from the F90 M5 forum and looking for help.

Did anyone face this issue when plugging-in a CTEK (rebranded BMW) Lithium charger ?

Thanks for your help!

I had this same setup on my X3MC. I use a CTEK tender.

No. Have used it on 4 BMW’s all with AGM batteries. I just set it for AGM and never had an issue.

Thank you for your reply.

I don't know if my issue is coming from the charger itself or from the car not allowing the charging process.

In your case, you used AGM charger for a Lithium battery ?

The battery in the G8X is an AGM battery.

Maybe you triggered overvoltage protection and the batt locked itself. This could be possible if you cycled through the Cteks charging modes before reaching Lion charge mode. Lion is limited to 14V while Agm is charged with 15V...

Thank you for that answer. When I plug in the charger, it defaults to Lithium mode.

If the UVP is triggered, how can I ensure that the charger completes a complete cycle?

Could driving the vehicle solve the problem?

I was just guessing, i have an Agm batt X3 and an genuine (non-Bmw) Ctek, but never used it on this car yet. If the charger goes to Li by default you can disregard my post since overvoltage is not likely. I think you should find someone with proper bmw tester/sw since there is some complex diagnostic mode for Li batts

The charger is produced by CTEK but rebranded BMW (marketing thing)

I don't understand why it doesn't work anymore, I'm waiting for my tech advisor from BMW to get back to me.

Maybe its not the car, cteks do tend to fail, despite beeing one of the best chargers on market. Beside common faults (button failure, pcb damage...) there is also some (unresolved) fuss about charging modes (allowed regen on Agm, which later was said to be prohibited...)

Thank you for this reply!

I know at some point there had an issue with the MODE button not working anymore.

I'm gonna try the charger on another car to see if it works.

Yes but you should find another Lion car....not that easy. I would rather find another charger or have the car diagnosed.
