LCI ix3 and Frunk install!

Hi guys, got my ix3 a week or two ago and loving the car, also thought you might like to see my new Frunk! It’s awesome, got both charge cables, med kit, tyre kit and space for plenty more… such as hiding the wife’s presents at Christmas 😆 Did a little YouTube video of you wish to see it, came from Germany via Wokeby. Expensive but worth it.

What about warranty when installing stuff like that? Is that affected in anyway?

Impossible to tell really, it would all come down to the interpretation of the contract, same with the insurance as to whether this qualifies as a 'modification' to the vehicle.

I suspect the official line would be that it hasn't been crash tested as part of the car's overall safety system so would invalidate waranty/insurance.

In reality, it's a piece of plyable plastic installed onto a solid strengthening bar, it's impact to a crash is going to be minimal and probably undetecable in any wreckage unless you were an expert on this specific make and model of car.

You could always remove it for dealer visits, looks like a couple of bolts and a jubilee clip, would take 5 mins once you know what you were doing.

My car had to go into the dealers this morning so I removed the frunk and replaced the cover, it took less than 3 minutes, literally. That way there’s no warranty risk

This looks great. Can’t believe it doesn’t come as stock.

Have ordered one based off this thread!

The charging cables under the boot just doesn’t work, especially if you also want to store the boot cover too.

My BMW dealer sells and installs them. So I guess there is no warranty risk for me .

Which country are you in?

I want one of these but don’t wish to invalidate the warranty

I don't know their costs. I presume they are injection moulded. A small production run can be pretty expensive per unit after the cost of mould manufacture.

Plus design and testing … for what’s likely to be a low volume seller.

Definitely think it’s low volume, I got this message today about my order:

“Some of the assembly material for the frunk disappeared and now your order cannot be shipped.”

So a two week delay unfortunately!

Does the frunk stay dry if you are driving in heavy rain?
