if using 35% tint for the front windows, what % of tint film to use for the rears?

asking for my former sister-in-law... she has a 2022 X3.

in her state, apparently the darkest tint allowed for the front windows is 35%.

she also wants the rear windows tinted to reduce heat.

what % of tint should she get for the rears so they can match the 35% on the front windows? (and not go too dark)

thanks for your help!

Rears should already be ~20% factory. I’d just do as light a film as they make. Remember, heat rejection and darkness are not connected. Just get a good film.

Agree on this. I drive prior generation X3, rear side windows & back window have factory privacy glass, had tint shop match that for film applied on front windows to achieve a unform tint density all-around the vehicle. Go for a quality high heat rejection film and you're good. A good tint shop will know how to match the front window film with the factory privacy glass.

She can eyeball this on-site with the installer. My Xpel dealer did a great job to balance the appearance with lighter tint on the rear side and backlight glass. Tell her to have that conversation with samples in hand. The installer should be able to accommodate whatever choice she makes in the moment.

Same regulations here. I had them apply 70% IR-rejecting ceramic film to the rear privacy glass since it was the lightest that they carry. (80% is available, just not normally stocked.) That plus 35% on front doors and 70% on the windshield (also darkest allowed by law) has done a nice job keeping interior temps reasonable.

We did the exact same values on ours, but also did 70% on the sunroof as well.
