The X3 M should be a decent competitor for the Macan and Alfa Stelvio. It was about time.

There's only one that I know of on US spec M40is...

When talking about performance engines, vehicles in this class are currently being nudged toward six cylinder engines, with V8s being hard to justify at this point for anything less than 500hp. Now, the next generation "C" vehicles in AMG *63 guise may very well be targeting over 500hp even in non-S trim. But then that figure is hardly the ceiling for the M256 either...

The X5M and X6M are classified as "volume sellers" at BMW M. As they sell in huge numbers.
Just think what the X3M and X4M will do.

While I agree with you that it will be a hit, I think your phrase "huge seller" may be a bit optimistic. At the end of the day it will still be a high performance mid size premium suv costing about $80k well equipped. You don't see a huge number of those around. Maybe your market is different but here, in Tampa FL, I would estimate I see 20 GLC300's for each GLC43AMG I see. Probably same thing for the SQ5 and Macan Turbos. I'm guessing Miami and the LA markets do a bit better.

Can't wait!! The F97 will be a nice replacement once this gets old after a year and half or so...
BTW, winters are installed in this pic, as the 21" 718M are stored nicely with my 20" 666M

And unlike the others, I'm thinking the color is Space Gray Metallic

Don't know about X5/6M production to demand, but I sure hope BMW is able to keep up with the demand on the X3/4M. I would love to get into this car in a few years, but hopefully allocations won't be tight.

I am actually going to be trading my f85 for an x3m when they launch. Definitely Donington, have it now and will probably have it again
That'll be nice, but I say switch up the color. Maybe even wait for individual to be available

This all started back in 2011 with the F25. It's too bad it took BMW a full life cycle to bring us an X3M. To be fair, when the 2011 F25 came to market, there was nothing that came close...until the Macan was released.

A fully loaded X3M should sit at @80K USD. Add at least another 6-8K if they do end up releasing a Comp Pack. Sign me up in 2021 if I can wait that long.

Why the hate? They don't even compare. The GTS and Turbo are in line with the X3M40i / X4M40i, NOT the X3M and X4M.

Have you tried driving them back to back (the GTS/Turbo and X3M40)? I've spent a lot of time driving that entire lineup, including Audi, Jag, MB, and still went with the M40i for a better driving experience - even came out quicker in some test and reviews.

For $66k, you get the M40i in a color other than Alpine White with every available package, wireless charging, harmon kardon, Adaptive M Suspension and the 699Ms, that's not really moderately equipped.

That seems like revisionist history, the F25 should have included the launch of a performance SAV before Audi launched the SQ5 but BMW didn't and for some reason waited for the F26. To add insult to injury, they offered M Performance kits for the 30d but not the 35i in late 2014. At least they're ahead of the RS Q5, but they're still later to market then the GLC63, Stelvio Quadrifoglio and the aforementioned Macan Turbo S.

these days it is.. I started with a $54,500 base price car and added the Adapative suspension, a hitch, the Exec pack, . .... but left off all the Driving Assistant , Driving Assistant Plus... Active Cruise control. optional Leather... . left off the big pimpin 21" wheels.. etc.
