I killed my horn
Hi, any ideas on how to fix my horn? After blowing it for ~45-60 seconds non-stop, the horn gave out.
This was yesterday. Horn still doesn't work. |

Perfect excuse to replace your horn with a horn from a semi or limo...

I haven't driven in a week, but down here in Miami it's like driving in another country. You really need it. Gotta look at it today, dangerous to drive w/o it.

Isn't the horn a safety feature? I'm sure the dealer would take care of it (for sure if it's in warranty. I've seen them fix out of warranty cars when in relates to safety (airbag, seatbelts).

There are two fuse boxes, one in the back and one in the front. Went to the back one and was able to get there easily and get the fuse diagram... horn looks to be 8 and 62 which are way in the back of the glove box.
took the cover off, how the heck am i supposed to reach those fusees? |

If you still have yours...practice hooking on and pulling a fuse from the rear (where there's room) it may help you when trying to pull the glovebox fuses since the space is tight. Good luck. (you can see the orange tweezers in the f06 rear/trunk fuse box in pic below).

Being that it is a BMW, I would not be surprised if the car detected that the horn was engaged for that length of time, determined that it was malfunctioning and disabled it problematically. A scan of the body module would reveal this fault, if it is programmatic.
I really have no idea if this is a real possibility, so standard troubleshooting applies. Press horn listen for relay click, check fuses, check horn location for power, or ground when horn is pressed. Some (horn systems)are powered 12v and use a ground pulse to engage, rather than being grounded and sending 12v. Good luck with it. Mike |
