Can someone explain in layman's terms what the Ionize function on the climate control does on the G01 X3?

We have that option as well as the separate fragrance function, which I understand but don't intend on using until well after the "new car smell" wears off...

Like extra filtration over and above the cabin air filter? Why would that be a selectable option? Who would opt out of better filtration if it were available?
I'm still puzzled..

Ionized air is bad for asthmatics. Maybe that's why?

It's always good to have a choice, especially if it adds to the bottom line, and if it's something new. Like mentioned, asthmatics might have an issue, and there might be more.

I usually think it's good to get exposed for some bad stuff too, if it enhance my immune system at least, or make me more used to something, as long as it's not permanently bad to the health.
