Odd rectangle on the side of the rear bumper

I was looking a buying a F25 and saw a picture of a 35i with these black rectangles on the side of the rear bumper which I have never seen before. Does anyone know what these are?

Yeah, it was some stick on crap, the dealer said they removed them after the pictures were taken. Not sure why someone would put something that trashy on such a nice vehicle. It's really loaded, with sport seats and the works, but the dealer sold it out from underneath me even though I asked via email it I could give them a deposit to hold it a few days before they sold it. It was not local, otherwise I would have showed up in person and bought it. Used car salesmen can be so sleazy.

Anyway, still looking, really wanted a 28i with 6 cyl rather than the 35i turbo anyway. Was reading about the walnut blasting, doesn't sound too fun. I so all my own wrenching.

You probably know this but just in case, the 28i was only a 6 cylinder for the 11-12 model year using the N52 engine. I have an 11 28i and it is fantastic.

+1 on n/a I-6 motor. Been driving and wrenching in my Bimmers for 15 years, in-line 6 is rock solid. Look for a used one, they are out there- I picked up 3012 last summer, 53K miles/original owner vehicle. Nice car.

Yeah, that's what is limiting the available vehicles since the NA 6 in the F25 was only available for 2 years. My hunt continues...

I have a 2001 525i and the engine has been really solid, actually the entire car has been good to me. Really it's my wife's car but I do drive allot. It's no speed demon, but it does the job. I have my 2007 Z4 ///M coupe for go fast enjoyment.

I test drove a well taken care of 2011 X3 28i and thought it had plenty of go for my needs. Too bad it had vinyl seats and even though it was a one owner vehicle from Maryland, it looks like it spent allot time in the north east salt belt since there was corrosion on allot of the hardware and other parts so I passed on it.

I don't need to find one immediately, so I'll take my time and keep looking. In the Maryland area, the dealers get cars from the north and bring them down so I avoid those which limits the selection even more.

If you can locate F25 with sport seats that's the way to go- much better than standard seats. That's 2nd reason I bought the car I have- it's near base model but had sport activity pkg (leather sport seats) and the convenience opening thing.

I put in a used BimmerTech DSP audio amplifier and the stereo system sounds 1000% better.

You know how it goes buying used- takes time, which you have- patience pays dividends, car will show up.

Good luck/Bill

Thanks for providing the link. I'm more than willing to make that drive, unfortunately that vehicle is equipped with a 4 cyl, where I'm look for 6 cyl only.

Update:
Found a low mileage 2011 x35i with premium, technology, cold weather, convenience, dynamic handling, HUD, premium sound, satellite radio and rear heated seats. Silver on black. A real garage queen with clear bra on the bumper and front of hood/fenders/mirrors. It looks nearly new. Zero door dings, paint chips or curb rash. Silver on black. Strange thing is, almost every one I saw had roof racks, but this one doesn't, even though it had over $13,000 in options and the roof racks option is only $250. I know I can add them, though the parts are nearly $600 and a day of my time to install. I think I'll pass on the racks for now. Really happy with this rare find.

I settled for no sport pkg, all the ones I looked at with sport were weren't in the best shape and there aren't too many to choose from with low mileage.

It's currently getting inspected/detailed/serviced at the dealer prior to picking it up.

Here's some pics before the dealer detailed it:

48k so not super low, but much lower than most I saw. All service done at the BMW dealer and at pretty frequent intervals.

That is pretty low for an 8 year old vehicle. Good job!

It may be possible to code Sport Transmission, but probably not the rest of the Sports Package.

I assumed the transmission was different on the sport models. Is the transmission the same, just with different coding?

The brochure calls the standard transmission "8-speed Steptronic" and the sport transmission "8-speed Sport".

As far as the rest of the sports package. I though it was mostly cosmetic differences plus sport seats, paddle shilfers and maybe 19s. Mine has the Dynamic Handling Pkg, so I don't know what else the sport pkg would provide other than what I listed.

Wow, congratulations on the find. You have a beautiful car. I have an 11 28i with 104,000 miles and I love it. I wish mine looked that nice though, amazing for an 8 year old car.

Thanks, I think it was rare to find a 8 year old vehicle in that condition with those options. Those pictures are before it was detailed, it was traded in looking like that. It was a garage queen and you can tell it was very well cared for. I'll post some pics of it detailed when I pick it up from the dealer next week.

nice find, but I have to wonder about the thought process of the person who ordered the dynamic handling package option but then said no to the m-sport package? My guess is they somehow prefered the look of the non-m-sport bumper?

Nice find, have fun with it.

I've seen several with the dynamic handling package without the M Sport package, so people must have their reasons. Maybe they didn't want 19" wheels due to their road conditions? With the DHP only adding $1400, it's a pretty reasonable option for what you get.
