brand new 1 year old car

so one downside of getting a good deal on a car from the middle of nowhere (new, not a loaner or a demo), is that it sat there for a good while. like... a year.

my selling dealer (not where the car is from) did the PDI, everything checked out, but there's minor stuff that i'm running into, which makes me wonder if there's anything i should think about explicitly. the minor stuff is just evidence that it sat outside for a long while (dirt inside the gas tank flap, dirt under the hood outside of the weather stripping, leaves in the drain under the hood, etc.)

are there things i should check out to make sure there isn't an issue i need to get addressed now? car is a lease, and i doubt i'll end up wanting to keep it (i haven't for the last 6 leases, so i probably won't start now )

Paint issues underneath the bumpers, and rear spoiler. Exhaust drone, especially at start up and low rpm.

Make sure they detail it inside and out. Maybe put fresh air filter and gas in there. Do an oil change. Check tires for rot.

Check tires since it was sitting so long.

I don't really think it's that big of an issue but I am curious as to what minor stuff you ran into?

honestly, just dirt at this point. which is not a big deal, just a little annoying on a brand new car.

they did a reasonable job of detailing it, but missed a few hidden spots (that are only hidden until you start using it).

the more annoying thing is the sunroof creaks, but i think that's similar to the windows on my f80 creaking when the seals would get dirty. i washed them and put gummi pfledge on it, hopefully that addresses it. the sunroof outer seal was filthy.

not unusual to see 6m-9m old cars over her. Cant see 1year being too much of an issue, at the right price!

Same experience here, I usually thoroughly detail my own cars post delivery. You can see in the attached under-hood photos, the plant matter and signs of water run-off. There is also cosmoline on the door seals, etc. which is typical and more noticeable on white cars. The paint on the other hand seems to be in pretty good condition - no etching, scratches, although I did detect a couple of hard water spots. My Pinnacle and Griots products applied by hand helped out quite a bit

Looks totally different now. Had the dealer clean the underhood components, I followed up with a more thorough clean, took the panels off, vacuumed some of the areas they missed, dressed (not with tire dressing) the plastic components to remove the dry haze, etc..

Also..Informed the Client Advisor (with photos) of the areas that the detail dept slipped on. I am one to not expect too much from the Dealer Detail Dept. outside of a basic wash. But the under-hood mess was not satisfactory, had to get at them on the condition with “evidentiary proof“ via pictures

The only other thing I would check is black plastic fading/UV damage on the rear spoiler. Mine was sitting for 6 months and has slight fading but others have reported more severe damage.

for plastic fading/UV damage, clean it with APC and MF or soft bristle brush, then rinse and dry. Try to apply solution finish for protection.

My 2020 that I just purchased looks to be a 9/19 build. It was detailed nicely and didn't look to be sitting for a year. With 91 miles on it, it had been driven on occasion too.
