The New BMW X3 (G01) Undergoes Winter Testing
BIMMERPOST NEWS The New BMW X3 (G01) Undergoes Winter Testing Video: We've shown you several G01 X3 prototypes undergoing testing last year (see spy photos), but now BMW has decided to tease the G01 X3 with their own officially shot prototype pics and video. The G01 X3 will begin sales with a sequence of 20(i,d), 30(i,d), and 40i engine designations. The U.S. will receive the 30i and 40i models, but there's also a nice new addition: the European 20d will be sold in the U.S. as 28d (same as F30 328d, but with the B47 engine likely replaced by the N47) - Source. Also, as we recently showed you, the G01 X3 will also be joined by the first ever X3 M (F97) model, which should follow shortly after the introduction of the G01 X3. Official Press Release: Munich/Arjeplog. Driving dynamic and reliability are just two of the major characteristics of any BMW automobile. To ensure that a BMW functions in all conditions and that the customer is able to enjoy unrestricted access to that brand-typical “driving pleasure” at any time, BMW invests a great deal of time and know-how in both the construction and the testing of new automobiles. Long before a new model series arrives on the market, it will have had to withstand possibly the most severe endurance tests. This includes, for example, testing under extreme climatic conditions such as those prevailing in scorching hot deserts or freezing cold winter landscapes. Fine tuning for optimal safety and maximum driving enjoyment. Moreover, the extensive ice surfaces of frozen lakes and the numerous remote roads with their firmly packed layers of snow offer excellent conditions for fine tuning of the settings activated via the Driving Experience Control function – and hence for the application of maximum driving pleasure and best possible driving safety. As a result, engineers are in a position to sense the vehicle’s dynamic behaviour much more accurately and synchronize the control of driver assistant systems such as Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) or Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) even more precisely and to attune it to the vehicle as a whole. It is this painstaking development work that later provides the customer with a competently tuned chassis for that typical BMW driving pleasure. Ideal preconditions for testing the BMW X3 in the polar region. Within the framework of the final winter trials, a BMW testing team completed a fastidious testing programme in wintery North Sweden. In the landscape around the small town of Arjeplog, pre-series models of the new BMW X3 had to prove that they are also able to withstand cold, ice and snow. Located in the historic province of Lapland barely 56 kilometres south of the polar circle, Arjeplog offers the ideal conditions for this. An abundant amount of snow and temperatures of minus 20 degrees and below cause the many lakes in the surrounding area to freeze over. The resulting vast, even surfaces serve as proving grounds on which steering, suspension and drive characteristics can be meticulously tested and various different technical solutions compared against one another. In the process, the intelligent four-wheel technology xDrive is able to demonstrate its advantages by not only ensuring best possible traction on icy surfaces but, thanks to fully variable distribution of torque, also by optimizing handling agility, this in turn resulting in enhanced driving dynamics and active driving safety.

nice to see the M40i getting split exhaust!
maybe its the camo but the trunk seems lower than the current X3 (going more towards the Porsche look) which also means less cargo room. Hopefully this isn't the case. I hope they do the X3M right, adjustable AWD and DCT would be awesome but I am guessing those will not happen. My biggest complaint with the current X3 was the cheap interior, it was inferior to the 3 series which is should be the same as. My wife went with the X6 lease 2 years ago because of it (had a X3) but we may go back if the interior has stepped up in quality. Hopefully the X3M has an extended leather option too. |

Those are some massive kidneys.
I hope it will look proportional , as for the back side, it seems to be something near latest X1. I hope the front will look good and not like this |

Everytime I drive by ///M engine HQ... I see these X3M's parked out back... I think BMW is really taking the SAV M's very seriously.

2 years ago we just had 2 young kids and hardly ever filled up the X3, the X6 overall space isn't much less and the "floor space" is actually more than the X3 was (same as the X5), but my wife liked how the X6 looked more than the X5 and she drives it 95% of the time, so her choice. However we since got a dog (55 lbs) so the X6 is a little tricky because of the trunk, so we are looking to go back to a normal SUV, but again don't need the full space of the X5... Which is why I am hoping the X3 is still full SUV sized and not slanted like the Macan/Cayanne. But if the interior still feels cheap we may just go to a X5, I would love to get a F Pace or Stelvio but we are so used to idrive which makes Jaguar's and Alfa's system seem a decade old (same with Levante), Audi's isn't bad but I hate their new SUV designs. |

While I agree that the interior of the F25 probably isn't the most beautiful one, I disagree that the F30 interior is that better. Actually I even prefer the materials of the F25 interior compared to the F30. I have a M3 F80 with full leather while my parents have a LCI X3 F25. The F80 interior with full leather is nice, but without the full leather it isn't at the level BMW wants to be (premium car manufacturer).
