iDrive Recording not recording accident

So I recently got rear ended and I have the drive recorder option on my car while being set to automatic 10 seconds before and after an accident occurs. Looking through the video files it doesnt seem to have captured anything at all and the only recordings ever on the car are the 2 manual entries I've done. Am I doing something wrong to get this to automatically record? Im coming from a Tesla that used to do all the recordings and save to a hard drive automatically so curious what im doing wrong

Not sure what might have happened but I added the Drive Recorder widget on the main screen so I can turn it on quickly. Not to catch an accident but maybe brake checkers or people approaching the car.

I second this! It's a great idea to put it in shortcut, I honestly don't trust the auto-detect things, in the event of accident, I always manually trigger it, set it to captures the last 20 seconds, that way you will have about 10 seconds to trigger it without losing any important footage in my opinion.

I think the issue is you just forget to press a button after an accident thats why its good to be automatic

How does one do so? I just did a quick search in the BMW Guide app, but didn’t find info.

Don't you just press the camera button and hold, it then records t-20 t+20 (or thereabouts) seconds?

Yes, you push and hold that button for around 3 seconds, but how long and the number of cameras it uses to record etc is determined by the settings. t +/- 20 seconds if the max duration IIRC.

It also needs privacy permission checked to enable recording otherwise it won't record. I'd also double-check the permission and settings following a software update.

Look up Widget in the manual, it's page 43 & 155 in my paper manual. However, as most things .... it's not very intuitive. Took me a few tries to get all the widgets I want and in the correct spots. There are "How To" Youtube video's as well.

Not sure what triggers the auto recording but I would imagine the airbag would need to go off.
