BMW G02 X4 M40i w/Genuine BMW M Performance Front 4 Pot Rear 1 Pot brake kit retrofit
Genuine BMW M Performance brake kit was used for this upgrade.
This brake kit fits for 5 series G30, 6 series G32 GT, 7 series G11 G12 and 8 series G14 G15 G16. Let me list out the specs of this brake kit. Front 4 Pot caliper whilst Rear 1 Pot with electronic handbrake. Running with front 395mm x 36mm, rear 370mm x 24mm discs. Both front and rear discs are dimpled and ventilated. Stopping power is much stronger than before due to the much larger discs size. Here's how it looks: |

Nice mod!
Hmm, I have not ever heard that some coding should be done when changing bigger brakes... Just wondering what kind of coding you think there should be done?

Some cars have a coding conversion for M sport Brakes. I assume the G20 and G30 both have this coding conversion done when replacing to M Sport Brakes. So the car and DSC control unit know that the brakes have changed and change the DSC operation accordingly since now the vehicle brakes different than stock. This information is located in the repair instructions to perform the conversion.

The M40i has 4 piston front/single piston rear brakes as standard. What are the differences between the calipers themselves? Are there differences in piston/pad sizing, or does this simply allow for larger rotors/swept area?
I ask because this is an expensive upgrade for seemingly little real world performance benefit that couldn't be had with a simple pad upgrade on the stock brakes. |

That's a damn nice upgrade which is probably not totally worth it, which is why I might do it🤣 Any other suspension or engine upgrades? Our stock brakes are very good but not exceptional. Well done.

Nice work! It looks incredible.
Agree with the Chief - our brakes are good but not exceptional. It's a big car, and it is fast. I've noticed that when you start to push it the brakes can get tired. If I end up doing a brake upgrade I'll likely go with some M550i used sets...slightly smaller than these and maybe a bit cheaper.

If I decide to upgrade my brakes I might stick with something like this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/18534314200...kAAOSwjLFiMl9g 2ish thousand and a good bit of upgrade. From the M550, which is the same weight as our X3 M40i. I think our stock brakes sell for about $1400, so it would be in total a $800 upgrade. The other advantage is that from my research, the spare tire rim for the 550i is the same as our car. Meaning that if you have the m40i spare tire, you can upgrade to the G30 brakes without getting a 19" spare tire. If you go to the X3M or the G30 M performance brakes then you need to get the 19" spare.

Would 19" wheels clear this or would 20" be necessary? I know that the circumference would clear since the 19" spare works, I'm curious about the caliper face though

Bump.
Anyone else done this (yet), other than putting myself in the position to take the bait? |

Recently had brembo bm-6 bbk installed and no coding or software related things needed to be done. Never heard coding is required when upgrading brakes (correct me if I'm wrong) and most my cars new and old have bbk installed.
Brakes were bedded in with alot of hooning and no issues. |

All that was needed was a mounting bracket for the front calipers which comes with the kit. So pretty much plug and play. |
