UK - M Sport rear disc/pads replacement
This is just for the UK folks really.
I'm getting ready to replace my rear discs/pads as one has a huge groove in it, the other is very patchy/scored and there's a minor wobble in the car (not in the steering) when braking heavily. BMW current price is £568 + £30 standard scope. Not the cheapest I thought, so fired off a quote request to a local BMW specialist. Quote came back at £653 and no scope! I quizzed this to confirm the right parts etc have been quoted and been told yes. They did say they could lose £20 of that but could not get anywhere near BMWs price on this occasion. This is a garage I've used in the past (for my old X1) and received good pricing from them. I really thought a specialist would be in £450-£500 for rear disc/pads. I’ll keep looking, but it comes to something when BMW are cheaper than a specialist J.

Sometimes the age of the car makes a difference, with older cars , usually 3 years plus, getting more discount or lower rates from BMW dealers. Last edited by avi66; 02-21-2024 at 05:44 AM.. |

Your indy might be a bit lazy with their parts buying ... or a bit opportunistic if they think they can make a bit more on the bits.
Euro car parts will sell you Brembo disks and pads for £360 so being generous add 2 hours labour (1 hour each side) . For brake stuff I usually buy the bits myself from autodoc or similar. You can still buy good quality aftermarket (not brembo) for under £200 It's ok to buy cheap brake sensor wires , you dont need the same brand as the pads. You will only need 1 on the rear axle. both sides are not sensed. I took the decision to move to ceramic pads on both of our X3s and now have almost no disc wear which is great. If you want to buy ceramic pads I used Rock auto in Nevada , US. they deliver in about 4 days to the UK for way cheaper that you can but them here. Feel free to DM me if you need. We have a repair garage in our family near birmingham if you want the job done with a low labour rate. (£50ph) Good luck, M |

BigMart... thank you for the offer and I will keep you in mind for the future! I'm way down in West Sussex below Gatwick and nearer Worthing, so a trip up to Brum is a trek for me. Shame though, as I will be that way in mid-May passing through on route to Manchester, but I need to get the brakes changed well before then.
And thanks also to... avi66. I called my local dealer, and they said it should be £606, but I do get a discount for the car being over 3 years old under 'Value Servicing'. The price in Oct/Nov 2023 was £520 from BMW, should have got it done then I guess. I'm going to change my app to a few different dealers and see what they quote. Good shout. J.

Interesting. Seems to be 2 prices on offer for BMW dealers within a 50 odd mile range of me...
£568.08 £551.58 It's only £16.50 difference, but a saving is a saving. J.
