Added iManu's G01 X3 M40i data, and updated graph to also show GT500R's charted run.

Informal initial Dragy test showed 0-60 at 4.29s. We did not use launch control and are trying to be easy during break in. Seat of the pants feel is it's strong to at least 120 and pulls as hard as my Alpina or harder from 70-100. Once break in is done we will try to do a more formal run.

Oh yeah my guess broken in with launch control will be 3.7 maybe even a touch quicker and similar to GLC63s

With IND's great dyno information I was able to run the Sim with updated numbers (546 HP and 496 lb-ft), and it now captures Nate's data points quite well. As it is run at sea level it doesn't have the drop off on the higher end, so suspect the elevated DA might have something to do with that (coupled with the sim being just a rough approximation).

But it is interesting that the Sim now shows the max speed of 177.2 mph (what BMW claims), whereas with just the released numbers of 503 HP and 442 lb-ft it could only max out at 172 mph, so these dyno numbers are consistent with what the sim is seeing.

I've also corrected the drag chart to share Nate's information which he kindly PM'd me about 100 Octane, full tank, and that they do have the spare tire in the trunk (29.8 lbs just for the wheel/tire itself), and we already knew about the heavy moon roof.

I also ran the Sim at 200 lbs less, and as onfireX5 has suggested, it indeed cuts about 0.2 sec off the acceleration curve, at least according to the sim.

Thanks again to IND - some excellent objective data.

Adding the chart comparing Nate's X3MC run to a 2015 F80 M3 back in 2014 so it's easier to find Qtr mile numbers in one reference thread. This was made in response to a comment by GVN*2FLY at https://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showp...6&postcount=43

Adding this comparison of models as reference to the X3MC's capabilities. We only have one formal drag slip (thanks again to IND for providing). Dragy offers advantages as easy to perform, but nothing beats formal slips at a documented raceway with dates and time of run (when one can research past weather to obtain proper DA numbers). Also, this removes the rolling start equation (nothing wrong with that, it just makes it more difficult for comparison purposes).

So trying to figure out how the competition STOCK fits in the equations, if anyone has actual slips of MB, AR, SVR, ... would be interesting to see the interval times. Personally, this isn't about who crosses first as I could care less about R/T (some may and that's fine), but just trying to sort out the performance aspects of the vehicle - V8 vs 6, aerodynamics, weight, engineering. X5M, X6M, all takers welcome (stock, formal slip).

And yeah, the M5C isn't fair in this, but just providing reference interval points. It is tough to find stock runs of anything to compare anymore...

Any contributions much appreciated.

How about some Dragy times from your GLC63S? As magazines use a 1' foot rollout which decreases the times. One member here (onfireX5) ran a 3.38 with a Dragy and 1' foot rollout and I believe 3.56 without rollout.

I'd be really curious to see how they compare with some Dragy results or some 1/4 mile slips.

You beat me to the punch. I was going to say the same thing about OnfireX5's rollout results. That time practically levels the playing field in sheer terms of 0-60 times. Low end torque, estetics, tech, price, sound, etc, etc are all still differences where one can debate the pros and cons of each, but I don't think an apples to apples comparison of these near identical zero to sixty times is going to sway a potential buyer in either direction.

Agreed - hard to beat 1/4 mile slips with date, time, and DA. Even more ideal if they also note octane and vehicle weight (or at least fuel load), esp if quibbling over a few tenths of a sec or mph. Although the mags are helpful, their track worksheets show some also use weather-dependent correction factors for their reported results. It isn't clear to me whether every group uses these, or even if they use the same methodology if they do.

Here's a comparison of the interval times for this varied vehicle group. The M3 differences are hundredths of sec but show a gradual increasing interval consistent with it's smaller 'Cd x A'. The M5C's time difference was faster in the first interval then decreased some. The Urus likewise had it's largest difference in the 60'-330' which lessened with the higher intervals. And the Trackhawk seemed to show a widening gap until the final interval.

Would be more intriguing with the X3M/4M's competitors, like the AR SQ, SVR, GLC63 series, to see where tuning/engines/torque variations might help and in which intervals the differences arise (early or late).

And obviously, the more runs we have to analyze the more relevant the trends could be...

I will but I want to wait until it's less than 100 degrees and humidity is under 80% which seems nowhere in site right now. Plus I am now at 7,000 miles and my tires are pretty shot so not getting traction. Can I borrow $1700 for tires?

This is the only one I have ever done in it and it was after 120 miles of driving with no cool down and in S vs S+ or Race mode and I barely brought the RPMS up with launch control as it was still less than 1,000 miles on the car.

That 3.47 is pretty impressive! Maybe even a 3.35 with S+/Race mode, holding the revs longer, and being fully broken in?

3.47 without rollout is pretty impressive.

Damn, 7k miles and the tires are shot? I thought 10K miles out of my TTRS tires was bad

It's a fast car and actually holds the Nuremberg record for fastest SUV lap so it can corner well. They tested the actual SUV but the Coupe is supposed to outperform it on the track. With mine lowered it is close to zeron body-roll.

Yep, my GLE 63s also ate tries at that rate.

BTW, I'm not here bashing on BMWs, I love them and the M3 that comes out in AWD will be a consideration of mine. My M40 which was tuned was also a fun car.

Oh, I totally get that you're not bashing BMW. It's always fun to compare similar cars. Some people get way too caught up in what THEY purchased and get butthurt.

All the current "fast" SUV's have something awesome to offer.

I can't wait to see more Dragy/1/4 mile slips for both cars in the future.

Yeppers, cars are just plain old out of control nowadays but it's awesome if you are a car guy.

I was trying to hold out for the X3M Comp so I could compare with the GLC 6Ss but after my seat issues with the M40i, the lower fit and finish interior and the fact that I was hoping the X3M would have a wider more aggressive stance than the M40, I decided to just go back to AMG.

I probably would've liked either one.

Hopefully someone in your area is on the Forum and you folks can meet up at a raceway in the Fall when the DA is better. It would be an interesting race. R/T and all aside, I would just like to see the Interval Times side-by-side, same conditions.

Just curious how quick do you think the 1/4 mile and 0-60 be in the 2020 x5 M50i?

Pure guess would be 0-60 in 4.0 and 1/4 at 12.3@113mph

I don't usually enter Dragy results into Chart analysis, but this does allow perspective as to the X3MC's tuning potential.
