The ride is smooth and it corners VERY well for a SUV! Just wish I could open up that 3 litre..... have to run it in for a bit first.

Looking forward to a 6 hour trip to Alnwick on Saturday

No I thought that at first it is a twin scroll turbo helps eliminate the turbo lag

Its still only one turbo - I asked as soon as I saw it. The explanation was a bit woolly - the usual BMW "clarity" that leaves you unsure as to what you are actually getting.

Regarding running in, they suggested taking it easy (no kick down, no hard acceleration, etc) for 1,200 miles and then increasing after that. The manual suggests max 93 MPH and revs below 3,500 - however I think this is generic information that may relate to the petrol engines???

All I can say is that even while running in and taking it easy, the performance looks promising! You are going to love it!

And of course running in doesn't prevent you from going round corners quickly!

I know what you mean about BMW clarity. I think that it's actually a brand now for them

thanks for the info. considering all the shove is available from such low revs, keeping below 3500 doesn't really come into it

can wait for mine. tick tock

The consistent implementation of BMW EfficientDynamics ideas is again evident in the BMW TwinPower Turbo diesel engines. They are made in lightweight aluminium construction and use variable turbine geometry, which permits a more efficient use of exhaust heat energy. This results in the turbo engine performing like a much larger aspirated engine and achieving this special performance with lowered consumption.
The common rail injection system guarantees optimum combustion. An important characteristic of this system is that the injection pressure can be created autonomously of the speed of the engine and the amount injected. Combined with a powerful control unit and injection nozzles, this markedly reduces consumption and emissions and increases running smoothness.
A fully-variable performance control and the unique turbocharging technology round off the innovation package with less space and weight. In total, these diesel engines offer typical BMW torque with low consumption – a unique combination of efficiency and dynamics.
Your engine is the:
N57D30O1 2,993 cc (2.993 L; 182.6 cu in) 258 PS (190 kW; 254 hp) 2011-Present
...which is listed on Wikipedia as a variable geometry (Twin Power) engine

Same kind of itchy waiting here too... I was told my 30D was being prepared for an Australian Compliance plate here in Perth, but no date was given as when the delivery could happen...
