So a mixed end to last week.

Bad news - Was due to take delivery of my M40d on the 1st March. Has arrived in the UK but is being held by BMW, apparently, there is an issue around faulty rear light clusters that is affecting a lot of different models at present. No date at present but looks like I will miss the 1st March collection date. Annoying but TRL has been great keeping me informed.

Good news - Having seen Lux700 and teaston recent pics with the black grille I have decided to do the same for mine when I do collect. Oh and I have the number plate

UPDATE: So today was collection day. Tony was a superstar and really looked after me. Cant recommend him enough. Anyway was stuck in traffic on the way home so had a good few hours to settle in and all I can say is wow. Every aspect of the car is such a big step on from my F30 but for me the thing that stuck out the most so far is the silence, its so quiet and refined makes the journey so much more relaxed. No idea about performance so far as mentioned above was stuck on the car park that is the M25. Anyway I have attached a couple of pics nothing that you wont have seen before.

Same here Andrew. Due to collect 1st March but delayed to sometime week commencing 4th instead. The hold has now been lifted so the cars are moving out of the distribution centre now. Sounds like a part (Rear light cluster, bolt too tight I think) has to be replaced as well from what my dealer said earlier. Hope you don't have to wait too long.

Looks like it's across quite a few models with a recall etc.

Screws maybe I heard

Just as an aside, they are all stacked up at Southampton docks on the multi storey car park they have there. I think the ones due for March deliveries arrived after the storm the other week so won't have got too salty!

That's really bad luck, hopefully resolved soon

The reason I heard is it is because they used a lubricant on screws that can react with plastic, I wonder how long this has been going on for?

About this time last year there was a similar stop on X3 because of screws used on rear spoiler, BMW definitely has a screw problem!

So are we 'screwed'? Sorry, bad pun, but I could not resist...

That's what I have heard as well. To be honest I would prefer it all sorted before I take delivery rather than the pain of having to take back to dealer afterwards.

Reminds me of old Fords and how they always used to have electrical problems like that.

On a serious note, assuming the shipments were from Spartanburg, does this mean other cars in US also impacted?

How about cars already in consumers hands? Possible recall?

Aren't BMW the new Ford. We used to have "Mondeo man", he now drives a BMW.

Seriously, hope the X3 is faultless once you get it.

I wondered that. Isn't it just M40i and d that are built in US for Europe? Mine was built end of last year and shipped over Christmas and new year. I wanted to wait till March for delivery so there must be others.

LOL - my very first brand new car was a Ford Taurus SHO. Everything broke down one way or another (especially electrical/electronic), except the Yamaha engine and the matching Japanese drive train which were flawless... All my subsequent cars were Japanese until the last one, my X3 M40i...

My 40d is coming from South Africa. Allegedly due round about the 22nd March.

That's odd I thought all M40 were from Spartanburg. When did you order?

Agreed, far better to drive away in a car that doesn't need a recall in a week. Dilutes the new car joy!

Welcome (soon) to the 40D club.

It's awesome!

Apparently it's only ones with individual options that are built in Spartanburg, although JustChris's seems to be an exception to that rule!
