Ride with M Sport suspension

My wife would like a used X3, but we are both unconvinced by the stock seats. We have sports seats in our F30 and they are great, but the only way to get them on an X3 is if the original order included the M Sport package.

Now our concern is whether the M Sport suspension screws up the ride. Anybody with M Sport care to comment?

The suspension is the same as the base X3 unless she has Adaptive Suspension.

Is it really? My car has the sport suspension delete, so I was under the impression it was a different suspension than base X3's as well as different from DHp ones. Good to know there's only two suspensions for this car.

That explains what the VIN decoder has told me about the available cars. I was a bit baffled when it kept saying "Standard suspension".

So really the M Sport package is the seats and a bunch of styling bits, like the different front bumper with the bigger vents, side skirts and 19" wheels standard. Probably explains why there are not too many about.

Yeah, that's why we (GF and I) ordered the F25 X3 35i base. Not a significant difference between the base and Sport package mechanically... at least nothing that you can't code.

Yeah, the nice "M Sport" bits came with the G01 X3 M40i. Not so much the F chassis X3s.

Seats: I own a 2012 X3, purchased used last summer from original owner - equipped with standard suspension, convenience package and leather sport seats. Original owner did not factory order the car.

Sport suspension is pretty taught; before the X3 I drove E39 sedans with sport suspension for 10+ years and wanted bit more cushy ride in the SAV.

I have regular tires on the car, a lot better ride quality than runflats, keep that factor in mind also.

And yes- sport seats are quite a bit better compared to standard seats in these cars.

I traded in my 2014 X3 28i for a 2017 X3 35i with M-Sport. Bigger engine, sport seats and some branding but no noticeable difference in suspension between the two in my opinion. If anything the 2017 is a slightly smoother ride.

sports seats are very nice for skinny people. A must ? no, but...

I really like the inflatable side and longer leg support. (I'm 6', and I really enjoy those longer seats).

But , a down side... a ''need'' that I never thought about... it makes me bought new seats for my daily driver audi.

some nice recaro

This seems unlikely- M-Sport is clearly a stiffer setup, one is going to feel the imperfections in the road surface more with sport suspension. Are tires on both cars 'apples to apples' comparable?....that can make significant difference in ride quality.

Up until the 2013 model, you could order one with the Sport Activity Package (ZAP). After that, it no longer exists.
You also take away the Smart Opener feature for the tailgate ("kick-to-open") with the M Sport Package .

The M suspension ride is not bad by any means. You definitely feel the road a bit more than a regular x3 but personally I like it. The M sport seats alone are worth that package.

I wish ass coolers were an option on x3!

Maybe with regular tires they are good- I test drove a couple that were fitted with runflats and the things rode worse than my old E39 M-sport on anything but a pristine road surface.

That makes sense. The run flats totally kill performance and comfort. That should honestly be the first mod of any X3

nice rs4 seats! but the rs4 wasnt only manual ?

I'm thinking about the steering wheel also, since I've scratched mine while cramping airbag wires under the seat. I did the job seat in the car (unbolted). So pissed. 3 deep cut in the steering leather.

Uh-oh! My wife liked that option. It drives me nuts how certain combinations cannot be had on many vehicles.

reminds me 328 E90/E91. You could get heating steering wheel with base model, but with M pack; no heating wheel.

this is not a big deal, and imo, very useless , yes even if I live in a nordic country with some -25°C, but its strange to not having this in fully loaded 328.

Yep, I was also in the same boat. She loved the sport seats but wanted the kick gate. EVERYTHING is an option and there is truly no "fully loaded" version out there. Just gotta pick and choose what you can live without.
A "standard" X3 is very bare-bones. It's ridiculous!

its not, 3 series are for this. The main market is for people that can afford hyundai tucson mild-equipped, but wants the bmw logo. A base n20 x3 was way cheaper than a fully equipped n55 x3.

annnndd it worked, tons , but tons of base bmw on internet. So when you read '' 328 or X3 fully loaded'' this is 99% of the time bullshit.

but yeah, I get what you meant.
