Hello

I need some advise on this issue I am having.
The vinyl part on my 2014 X3 35i glove box door is separating. The car is out of original warranty but still under CPO warranty. The dealer said they will not cover the replacement as CPO warranty doesn't cover it. It's because it's an accessory item.
This doesn't make sense to me but I might be wrong. What do you guys think?
Btw, I already reached out to BMW NA.

Really?

The terms in the warranty weren't clear?

To me it's not clear why a glove box door is an accessory item.

Glovebox door = 'accessory'...hardly. I've seen several forum posts where Dealers did replace this on out of warranty cars-as best I've seen/read it is a known defect. Seems your dealer is a genuine uncooperative Stealer.

Maybe BMW NA can help, maybe time to speak with the Service Manager or GM.

see post #8-10, 22 &....here: https://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sh...light=glovebox

That is such BS! I bought one new BMW from my dealer, but service both my 340i and x3 3.5 there. When my glove box door separated, out of warranty, it was replaced no questions asked, while I waited for it. Total cost zero. Which is what all dealers should do - this is a known problem and clearly a design flaw. Tell that dealer he lost a sale and go elsewhere if you can. Remember you can buy wherever you get the best price and service the car at the most convenient dealership.

Good luck/Bill
(I repaired my delaminated 'accessory' door on car I purchased from private seller...pretty simple DIY)

Maybe it's considered a "panel", which is not covered. Terms seem clear to me

Fix it yourself, it's really easy.

Definitely not worth giving the stealership $500 for it. Hell, it's not even worth wasting the time and energy dealing with them, IMO.

Thanks all.
Yea I will probably end up fixing it myself.
It's unfortunate that dealers/BMW made no effort to explain why they won't repair/replace it while fully aware that this is a known issue.

I had mine replaced under a goodwill program well after my car was out of warranty. No effort on my part, my dealer really went to bat for me.

Most dealers won't replace it under warranty or good will, but great if they do.

My 2011 had the same problem, outside of warranty. After reading the threads on here I decided to order a new door online and replaced it myself. Or you could try gluing it yourself, whatever you feel comfortable with. I didnt think it was worth the fight with the dealer...but if you can get them to fix it free, great!

Where to find a replacement glovebox door?

I glued my door on the driver's side edge of the glove compartment but now its separating on another edge. Where did you buy a replacement? Mine is beige and I'm nervous the leather color won't match after all these years

Any dealer....but suggest you try getbmwparts.com. They typically have good pricing.

Remove the glovebox, it isn't that hard, a few t20 screws. Apply some gorilla glue on the underside, especially towards the edges, and use some clamps to hold it together overnight.

I used contact adhesive and clamps overnight. After the dealer offered to sell me the part at a slight discount, I decided it was more sensible to repair it myself since the new one will do the same thing after a couple of years anyway.

Can you help me with this install of the new glovebox door? I have the same issue with my 2012 X3 and the new replacement door arrived today. But I can’t find anywhere on google on how to just replace the door or even get the door out. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you
