Cool We strip the final camo off for BMW X3 M (F97) and X4 M (F98) preview

BIMMERPOST NEWS
We strip the final camouflage off the BMW X3 M (F97) and X4 M (F98)

COMMENTS

BMW may have come pretty close to showing us the production X3 M and X4 M in their recent official teasers, but they still left some final camouflage. We've now digitally removed the camo to preview the F97 and F98 is some different colors (actual production color options are not yet known).

Not only will the F97 and F98 be the first full-blown X3 and X4 M models, but it will debut the S58 turbo 6-cylinder engine which will also power the G80 M3 and G82 M4 to come after.

Enjoy our preview!

Portimao Blue

Donington Grey
BMW X3 M (F97) in Donington Grey

Black Sapphire
BMW X3 M (F97) in Black Sapphire Metallic

X4 in Portimao Blue, Flamenco Red, and White
BMW X4 M (F98))

Donington Grey looks awesome. Quote from article: Powered by S58 engine (which will first debut in the X3M). Expected to produce 450-460hp in X3M, but may make more in G80 M3.

Will the expected HP figures really be that high? This will be fun to debate on the Macan Forum!

I'm sure these are accurate renders and I am excruciatingly underwhelmed. No fender flares or wide section rubber, no deal. Just get x40i.

Needs to look way more aggressive. Does anyone know whether X3M will be an LCI model vs. same as current X3? The X3's interior already looks so dated relative to G20, new X5, etc. Can't see why anyone would spend the money on an X3M if they don't update all of that (since eventually it will definitely come)

I'm hopeful. The upcoming pipeline thread August update stated the 2020 X3/4 would be getting the new dashes

am I the only one that thinks BMW is jumping the gun making a new 6? the S55 has proven to respond incredibly to mods, and has shown to be one of the most reliable engines BMW has made in years. If their history is anything to go on, this next engine is going to have a bunch of issues and need fully built to make any real power

also, I feel like these dont look aggressive AT ALL. this looks indiscernible from the m40is, which is to say it looks like a standard X3

I'll reserve judgement for real pictures, but these renders look very boring, not aggressive at all

I like it. If I can get a tow package and I decide not to keep my M4, this will probably be my next BMW, PCD delivery and transcon drive home!

The S55 sounds like $hit
With stock exhaust it sure does. but who's really buying M3/4s to stay fully stock? If you think the S55 sounds bad with a proper exhaust system (especially racing mufflers) and a cat delete, you just dont like how 6's sound. S55s with the boost cranked sound like banshees straight out of hell

Really looking forward to these as BMW did an outstanding job on the X3 M40i already!

Not very 'special' looking in my opinion!

It looks like they spec'd this out in 15 mins.

If so, then spend some time on the new Z4 and make a real ///M sports car.

For those wondering why BMW is replacing the S55, it's simple. European regulators have increased emission requirements which is why the M2 lost its N55. They have to continue to evolve their engines to meet these requirements. Also the HP wars are on and it makes more sense to build the S58 then tune the S55.

the s58 is about to drop at around the same time as the stage 3 setups for the s55. I personally would rather wait and do that, than upgrade to the new M, only to have to wait 4 or 5 years for good power packages to come out again

After seeing so much of the new kidney grilles on all new cars, these grilles look so outdated and out of place
