Right. I phoned my dealer. He said the status is "Departed Plant" but we didn't know if this meant on the boat or not so he phoned to check. He called back within 20 minutes with this update:

My car left the plant on the 23rd April and the boat left Charleston, SC on the 27th April bound for Germany then Southampton and is due in Week 20 in the UK as promised.

He says that the cars are obliged to clear the port within two days so its looking good! The car will be at the dealer late week 20 or start of week 21.

I ordered the car on the 8th March 2013. Build was scheduled for week 17 but started at the end of week 16. Delivery looks like week 20/21.

I'm well chuffed - assuming it all goes as planned!

Thank you for the update
Since my car also was supposed to be produced week 16, i can´t imagine getting delivery much later than you. Ordered March 13.
Bet they are on the same boat and part ways in Germany

Interesting news, thanks for the update. One can only assume our cars are on the same boat, assuming mine was built as planned...

Yes it makes sense that the week 16/17 build cars would be on the same boat ...... our long wait should soon end!

Interesting though that I was told that my car would go to a port up north and arrive mid June, and you have been told Southampton and Week 20/21!

Hopefully I'll find out more soon!

Just received an update;

Quote:
Your car is ‘9000 status – Departed Plant’

The expected arrival to the UK is the week after next, week commencing 20th May. unless anything unforeseen happens, you should definitely have the X3 before 10th June.

Edit:

Quote:
Difficult to say….. at this stage I would say first week of June……

Typically it takes between 10 & 14 working days to arrive here, following arrival at the port.

Regards

Sounds like yours is on the same boat then. Good news. I think your dealer is a bit pessimistic on the final stage compared to my dealer. Lets hope mine is right! Time will tell.

At least we are getting some detailed information now.

Just reread the post. Your car looks a week behind if its due in on the week commencing the 20th. That ties in with the boat that leaves Charleston today and arrives in Southampton on the 22nd. Mine left on the 27th April. And is due week 20 which is the week starting the 13th May.

This seams odd as your build was scheduled before mine.

Does your dealer know when it sailed?

I know that mine goes to a BMW Prep centre in Yorkshire where it has seal & protect applied and number plates put on... and then it gets delivered to my house on a flatbed so unsure if that process holds things up...

No idea when it sailed, but arrival on the 22nd does sound right from the dates i've been told - which would mean I will probably get my car exactly 1 month from today...

Well it still all sounds positive, it looks like you car will be a bit earlier than the original date you were given. I hope it all goes well.

My dealer has just phoned to tell me the boat my car is on has docked in Germany today.

Should be in the UK in a few days and at the dealer on or before the 20th May.

Not long now...........

Hi All

I have been looking at this forum for weeks, trying to amuse myself and not go crazy waiting for my new beast to arrive.

I was comforted to see in my developing obsession that I wasn't alone!!!

My dealer told me that my new X3 had arrived at the dealership yesterday, but would not be able to handover for a week - a whole week - she's killing me.

My predicted arrival date, before yesterday's update was week 22, so early nonetheless.

Just 7 more days.........going in tonight to the finance docs, so will try and get a peek.

My salesman is on Paternity leave, his boss is now dealing with my car.

I have been told my car has cleared UK customs and I have been given a registration number.

Naively I thought that this meant that delivery was imminent. NO. Apparently the dealer said delivery would be by a week on Friday - another 10 days away. Moreover he didn't think this was unreasonable - until I objected.

If my car was in Germany on the 8th, then it was at Southampton two/three days later - say the 11th latest. That means it takes from the 11th to the 24th to clear customs and get from Southampton to Norwich - that’s longer than the boat took to cross the pond (just 11 days Charleston to Germany).

I suggested that BMW could sharpen up their UK delivery times and to be fair, he is trying to get the car early next week.

Went in to complete the paperwork this morning. The car will be handed over first thing next Thursday morning (23rd May). Personally I still think BMW UK could sharpen this up, however it is sooner than the original delivery date and at last I have an END to the agony in sight!

Anyone else had an update from the week 16/17 build cohort?
