M logos on X4 fender

Hey guys,

New here and KIND OF new to BMW. Had a 1997 M3 a few years back but didn't last long as it had issues beyond what the car was worth.

Custom ordered a 2019 X4 M40i and it has started production! Woohoo! We test drove and X3 and X4 M40i and the X3 had M badges on the side... X4 didn't. When you build the car on-line and looking up the production process, it shows the M badges on the front fenders... I kind of like the little logo and not sure if I will be getting them. Part of me says no but seen some videos on YouTube that are mixed up. Some have them, some don't but it seems that most X3's have it?

But why does the X3 M40i get them and not the X4? That's where my confusion is coming in...

EDIT: Must be a dealer add on or a customer request because I know 100% that the X3 we looked at and drove had them but Autotrader doesn't show any on other dealer lots...

I'm going to ask the dealership about it. We test drove two vehicles that day... X3 M40i and X4 M40i. I thought it was weird the X4 didn't have the logo... Both were brand new 2019's with only 12 miles on them each... Dunno if it was a mistake at manufacturing or what but I know for a fact it was there and the entire reason I brought up this thread. Anyone have a part number at all? I don't want the cheap eBay crap. And it's not up-badging, LOL.

Well, there's M, and there's M-Sport, and there's now M-Competition.

M is M. Love it.

M-Sport is some pretty parts and an M-Logo anywhere that BMW thinks to place it.

M-Competition, that's perhaps what the old M has become.

An X4 M-Sport is NOT an X4M.

X3's initially had them in the '18 model. They were removed when they changed the rear emblem position. I'd guess that's when they decided an X3M will be produced.

Cool. How did the two cars compare in terms of the drive?

Cool. Can you please share more about your back to back test drive? Was the difference really noticeable?

Well, we drove the hell out of the X3 but liked the looks of the X4 more and didn't get on the X4 as much as we did the X3 because we knew they'd be damn near the same. This is going to be the wife's car so she is the one that drove. However, what we noticed...

- X4 feels slightly quicker (we are coming from a Hellcat and were impressed by the quickness to be honest)
- X3 has more (or more noticeable) pops and sputters from the exhaust. I think this may be because the X4 has more "material" between exhaust and your ears, making the X4 sound quieter.
- X4 back seat is near impossible for my 6 foot 210lb body to get into, but it's more for the kids anyways. I was only in the back so the salesman could show the wife all the vehicle features. Also, being a disabled vet with a bad back really sucks getting into tight areas anymore.

Other than being slightly "quicker" they are pretty much dead on the exact same.

Being that you're in NY, any chance it's a Canadian model? What year is the X3?

No problem! If you want any more details, let me know. We are picking our X4 up on Saturday, even though it's a high risk due to still having our lemon we were supposed to get rid of. LOL! Long story on that.

I took delivery of my X3 M40i 2 weeks ago through PCD. No side fender logos.

Congratulations! Just wanted to hear from someone who did a back to back drive to compare the drive. The reviews on the x4 always says it drives more sporty because of the slightly lower height and a slightly wider rear stance. But I wonder whether it is noticeable in real life, daily driving.

Sorry for going off topic.

Barely noticeable unless you have them side by side. You can tell SOMETHING is going on when they are apart but it's absolutely minimal.
