Saw the video it was random in gear videos and a load of sh1t. Basically if you were in the X3M you’d never use the gears they chose. Total waste of t8me and completely meaningless.

Are you considering buying one? Are you choosing between X3 M40i and M?

I am trying to decide between the two. The only things stopping me from getting the x3m is the firm ride and lack of idrive7... I drove both and was very impressed with the x3m . Just wish it had a somewhat softer ride . I only brought up the torque topic because I found it interesting but it felt great to me in that regard .

I'd respectfully suggest, if you haven't owned M models previously, perhaps starting with the G01 X3 M40i and see how you get along might be a better step forward (based on my reading of your questions and concerns). It is a great construct by it's own right (we had over 20K miles in our G01 X3 M40i models when we traded them for the X3MC editions).

The step up to the full M in this model isn't just about the power delivery but the exquisite handling it offers, which simply cannot be matched by it's siblings in the line. If iD7 and a more comfortable ride are more important concerns for you, this M probably isn't for you at this time.

Good luck with your decision.

Unless you think it was rigged? Watch Joe Achilles video comparing the two cars . It wasn't even close actually .
IMO, that video was totally biased towards the M40i. I watched another X3M video Joe did with X3MC, he was overly enthusiastic about it.

With regards to that comparison....who drives around in 4th or 5th gear, in manual mode at 20 or 25?

Carwow showed the X4mc taking down a Porsche Cayenne Turbo in rolling 50 mph acceleration run....in efficiency mode but in auto not in some silly manual 5th gear. That is impressive.

Sounds like you want the X3M but your trying to peg it down in forums to convince yourself the 40i is the one for you.....

I tend to agree - test drove the X3M and then immediately the m40i. Then jumped back in my F31 335d.

The m40i felt a bit like a new jacked up F31 - very familiar, comfortable and easy to drive.

The X3M was very different despite being the same platform and a "similar" 3.0turbo. The "comparative" lack of torque was very apparent for normal driving.

I think most people will be very happy with the m40i. Great car. Very fast. Good build and tech.

I am very happy with the X3M and for me was the right decision.

I think on this particular forum all you will get is for the X3M

I never test drove the x3 m40i but the x4m.

I am in a s5 2017 which is pretty firm and I didn't find the ride on the test drive as bad as I was expecting.

In an ideal world I may have gone for the x3 m40i living in London but I have always wanted an m car and thought sod it!

Especially as I have much the same deal for a loaded x3m as a m40i with the amazing UK promo.

Is that the right decision I hope so pickup in a week.

I've heard the ride on the m40 with RFT21 isn't spot on either. I will probably run the x3m tyres 5% below spec too.

Don't know if anyone here had a e92, I bought that new with the 19" 225M wheels with the RE050a Bridgestones it was shockingly bad so that's perhaps why I found the two short test drives ok as my tolerance is high

Probably right . Another consideration I have is that I drive my mom around on weekends and not sure the hard ride will make her comfortable . Also the x3m might be too nice to have my 95 pound dog slobbering all over. If I could afford it I would get both .

Nice motors! I had an 07 plate so I guess that was the first gen non LCI. I wonder if they improved things for your LCI?
I changed to Goodyear non fun flats and it was a huge improvement only to sell a few months later to get house deposit together

It's a pity Carwow didn't get an X3M40i instead of the X4M for the drag race against the Cayenne Turbo/G63S and Bowler, would loved to have seen it school them all....
