Idrive screen restarting randomly
Has anyone else’s screen been going black and then after a few moments restarts like it does when you first start up the car? It has happened twice in the last week.

Mine just started this the other day… freaked me out a little. Otherwise the car has been spot on. Hopefully it was only a fluke or maybe restarting because of a map update or something

Just bought a 2019 M40i with 27k miles. The previous owner left the service records in the glove box. Went through them and noticed they took it to the dealer for this issue at 15k miles.
Dealer's response was, "Could not replicate issue. Restarted battery." |

I had this with my 2017 X3 on the ID5 system...
I owned the car for one year (65k miles to 75k miles) The system would randomly black out and reboot.... sometimes once a day / sometimes once a week / sometimes not for a short period of time... but it always came back... right up until the day we traded it in. Never had any problems with it / nor loss of information. Just an annoyance that it repeatedly rebooted itself without pattern. Never did find a cause or a fix. |

There's an SIB for idrive 7 vehicles I believe. Also this reset can be caused by your phone or Bluetooth device sometimes.

I just came back from a 2500 kilometer trip. The iDrive while using the GPS was re-booting about every hour or so but thankfully, I only had to select the last destination setting to get back on track. Very annoying to say the least.

Yup. Just once so far in 3 months of ownership. (2018 X3)
It looked to me like iDrive had restarted and appeared to be related to CarPlay. A text message (SMS) had just arrived and as I touched the screen to listen to it the screen went blank. It all came back to life within 30 seconds or so including CarPlay. I've just completed a 600 mile road trip from West Sussex to Coventry, up to Manchester and back to West Sussex again and no issues at all with blank screens. If it happens again I'll raise it with my dealer as the X3 is under warranty until April 2022. J.

Are any of you using a iPhone and listening to bluetooth audio every day? I used to have a 2018 M40i and an iPhone XS Max. A few months ago there was a terrible iOS update that not only made bluetooth audio extremely unreliable on any device but would actually crash the iDrive in my X3 sometimes. Happened a few times until the next phone software came out and that fixed everything.
So if you have an iPhone I would recommend updating it to the latest software and see if that fixes it. (That said I have a 2021 X3 now and still have connection issues with Carplay that I think stem from the iDrive, not the phone.) |

My phone is up to date. Last update was recent but I don’t know exactly when. I don’t use audio from my phone in the car. Made an appointment Monday so maybe it just needs a reset or something. |

I've rebooted the system as per genius instructions and so far so good. I was also getting a message that my log in credentials were invalid and was told by the genius that since I hadn't used the car in 6 days that it shuts down as if it was stolen or something like that and to change my password which I did and that has seemed to work also.

This has just started happening to me within past few weeks. It's annoying as F. I'm guessing it's an Apple/Car play issue? Haven't had any iDrive updates. iPhone is only variable it seems.

This has been happening to my 2020 X3 xDrive30e as well for the past month or so, will be setting up a service appointment to see if an iDrive update is required. Can't seem to force a replication, so hopefully they at least try something.
