Oil drain plug plastic cover

So took my X3m in for an oil change at a dealership.
I finally went under the truck yday to install my aa midpipes and the plastic spin off cover that’s covers the oil plug is missing.

Does anyone else have one bc a lot of people are saying Bmw didn’t install them from factory?????

Don’t want to accuse them of leaving it off. Already pissed bc they didn’t even wipe off excess oil from the plug and pan. This bmw dealership is awful along with their horrible service advisors.

Dealership and their service advisors are horrible. Literally act as if you’re a bother to them.

They said my truck didn’t come with one. When they put the vin number in, it says it was produced without that cover.

Meanwhile they keep ignoring the fact that they left my oil drain plug loose and oil got on my driveway. I loosened it by hand when I got under.

Just sounds like a really bad dealership.

This is easy to find out…just use one of the online part database sites like www.bimmercat.com and enter the last 7 digits of your VIN. Then go to the diagram for the UNDERBONNET SCREEN (found in 51 VEHICLE TRIM) and see if the part is listed in the part number index BELOW the diagram. If the part number for #5 is NOT listed in the part number index…then they were correct about the part not coming from the factory on your BMW. And if #5 is grayed out in the diagram…that also means the part is not optioned for your vehicle:

Thanks for that tip. Mine is missing as well, and it looks like #5 is not an option on bimmercat

I enter the last 7 and it doesn't show any parts listing. What am I missing?

I'll scan mine or use it's measurements to mock one up to 3d print.

I don't understand what you are saying or what you did or didn't do. Did you select anything for the site to give you any information? The site contains tons of data…you have to make selections to narrow down what you are looking for. If all you did was type in your VIN, then you didn’t select any other options, then no…you aren’t going to see anything.

If you did do more, how new is your BMW? If it was just built, the database may not be updated with your VIN’s info yet. You may have to select generically for the model/platform you have.

Did you you scroll down to select one of the diagrams (see 1st pic below with category nbrs 1-91)? Once you click on a category (I clicked on #35 (pedals)…then you’ll see diagrams in that area (there’s just two).

When you click on a pedal diagram, you’ll then see the exploded view with the part nbrs listed below that gives multiple info like production date range, QTY, and supplemental info. Then if you click on the 11 digit part nbrs…you get even more info like other BMW models that use the same part as well as old part nbrs that are retroactively compatible etc.

I put the full VIN in and I don't see anything like the parts image you posted.

I’m not able to see anything as well. I have to mess around with it when I get home. Something to do with cookies on the browser.

Thanks bro. The dealer ended up giving me a cover for free. How annoying is it to get to the oil filter ?

This is the first car I’ve owned that I took to the dealership for an oil change. Was going to try it out next change.

The filter is more annoying than it should be to reach. It can be done by un-plugging a hose (might not even need to do this) for a bit of extra clearance and some extensions if you want to leave the air box on the engine. I usually just remove the strut bar and air box if only to make it easier to align the new oil filter when I put it in.

The oil filter is a pain but If you do it once or twice it won't be as bad. If you have RK or the BMS intakes it will be that much more easier and less time consuming.
