Comfort access and tailgate function

Hi all, just picked up a new to me 2017 equipped with CA. Looks to me from the owners manual that a kick of the foot under the bumper is supposed to open the tailgate door. Can anyone confirm that it is that way or not? Mine doesn’t work that way.
Thanks

M sport models do not have it or tt may be dirty. Clean under the trunk with a pressure washer.

dirt has nothing to do with it. If you have M-sport package or trailer hitch, CA for the rear hatch using just your foot does not work. If you have neither M-sport or trailer hitch, and CA works everywhere else, take it to the dealer to be fixed for the rear hatch.

What causes it to not work with M-SPORT or trailer hitch

The sensors are in the center of the bumper and due to the design of the M-sport bumper BMW decided they wouldnt fit. And in the case of the trailer hitch, the hitch is in the space where the sensors would be. Either way, I think BMW could have come up with an alternative solution by simply locating the sensors on the left or right side of center on the M-Sport or trailer hitch equipped vehicles. I would be tempted to retrofit the sensors off center if I had an X3 that had this configuration. I havent heard of anyone trying it though.

It may be difficult in a 2011 as this was not an option for that MY.

I have comfort access with the door handles and that works.
Was the tailgate not part of comfort access in 2011 ?

The kick-to-open feature was not part of comfort access in 2011.
