I’m am looking to do lowering springs in the summer.

I currently have stock 21” rims with Bridgestone RF’s. Looking to also replace with Vossen HF-5’s (satin bronze) with Michelin PS4’s in the same size.

I don’t want the ride to be any harsher than it is now but obviously changing the RF’s will help.

H&R lower further but most reviews I’ve read say they give a harsher ride. Where as Eibach’s don’t lower as much but are softer.

I want the H&R look with the Eibach ride. I want to retain the OEM dampers so not interested in the coilover route.

https://www.mlperformance.co.uk/prod...4-30dx-x4-m40i

https://www.autodoc.co.uk/eibach/12831802

I currently run 15mm bimmec spacers.

Anyone on H&R’s confirm the ride is harsher than stock?

Minimally firmer w/ the HR’s which I’ve found to be ideal

Losing the RFT’s will be a huge improvement as well

Go low or go home…the HR’s are lower and the right choice imho

Do either HR or Eibach make springs for the 30i? I think all of the posts here are from M40i.

Perfect stance. I would not want anything lower. How’s the ride quality vs. stock height?

Slightly stiffer than stock but not uncomfortable, I drive it on NYC pothole infested roads on a regular basis.

Could you please tell me what size wheel you have on your X4?

I am also looking to lower my X4 onto H&R Springs. 40mm on the front and 30mm on the rear. Do you reckon I could squeeze 22" on?
I have seen Manhart do this on an X4 but I am not sure how the ride quality will be

I have 20’s on now and there is more than enough room. I’m in the process of ordering 21’s and think the clearance with the fronts will be just fine; rears are a non issue

I can’t speak re 22’s but suggest that you look through the following thread. There is an absolute ton of information available; you’ll simply have to scan through to find 22’s

Why don’t you consider the MSS adjustable Springs? Have you spoken with the lads at Evolve?

Reached out to a local shop for quote to install my H&Rs and since I'm a few hundred miles away from needing brake service I figured I would have the rotors and pads replaced since they'll have it on the lift and have the wheel and strut assembly apart anyway.

New front and rear rotors with brake pads replaced, new wear sensors, H&R spring installation and alignment.

$1,200.?

Sounds like a real good deal. But also depends on what rotors and pads they are throwing on. The shop I got quoted on were going by the bmw book of man hours, which quoted me 9.5 hrs and $1250 just for springs. 🤮

Everything is expensive here in Honolulu, so my tab of $890 for my HR spring install was a great deal; almost half of the other shops ask

Your $1200 quote for that much work seems outstanding, but as Gr8ZongB58 pointed out, it’s somewhat dependent on what brake parts they’ll be installing

That quote made me grab a wrench real quick and started turning things! 😆

Saved myself 1250 dollars!

All parts are in my hands, the quoted $1,200 is pure labor, shop expense, etc.

Front and rear rotors are Zimmerman Z coated rotors
Front rotors are 2 piece
Rear rotors are 1 piece

Front pads are EBC Redstuff
Rear pads Akebono ceramics
Both sets of pads came with the sensors

Oh ok. That makes more sense. Still not a bad price for labor alone for both springs and brakes while you relax at home.

When I stop by the shop I'll ask for an itemized break down by service.

Depending on what they charge for rotors and pads I may choose to tackle them myself if it cuts the cost down significantly.

It would be my first time swapping rotors and I'd have to get some tools that I don't currently have on hand.

I'm sure you're springs will be the more labor intensive item and it does require specialty tools to get the job done efficiently.

Got back from the shop today and the breakdown was about 60% suspension work.

H&R spring install - $600
Alignment - $150
Front Pads and Rotors - $270
Rear Pads and Rotors - $270

I will be learning to swap pads and rotors myself next time around because dropping $540 on routine maintenance is not something I'm proud of.
